It’s encouraging, and a good thing. Should have been doing this since the beginning

It’s extremely unfortunate that masks and the response to covid19 became about politics in the first place. For some reason he took it as if it was a political thing against him so had to pretend it was not really a thing

Just wear a mask or whatever we need to do to get this over with so we can get started again

I entirely agree with your POV. Masks are not magic bullets, but they help. One could look at the low death rates in Japan, Taiwan and Korea as evidence for this. Democrat leaders have used mask mandates as an excuse for their own incompetence, but despite that they still help, by basic geometry and physics. The point of masks is not to protect you, but to protect others. Not to wear them, absent decisive evidence that they don’t protect others, is reprehensible.

I have had type I diabetes for 40 years, and for that reason am arguably immunocompromised. I don’t insist on crowded bars or restaurants rearranging their business model to accommodate me, but I still need to buy groceries and do other things. This rebellion against masks, despite their apparent success in the Far East, mystifies me. If all you do all day is post on FR, of course you face almost no risk.. But for people like me, who do need to go out and face Covid risk from time to time, the refusal to wear masks because it’s seen as some kind of Deep State conspiracy is genuinely dispririting,

I hope the president’s willingness to wear one when the circumstances call for it will cause some people to reconsider.

“he took it as if it was a political thing against him”

Because it was/is.

“Just wear a mask or whatever we need to do to get this over with”

It won’t be “over with” until herd immunity kicks in. That won’t happen if people are cowering behind masks all the time. It just prolongs the inevitible.
