Wayfair product listings spark child trafficking conspiracy theory

A conspiracy theory emerged Friday that the Wayfair online store was using the sale of storage cabinets as a cover for child trafficking — which the home decor company immediately denounced as false.

A post on the social media website Reddit noted the high cost of the furniture — along with the fact that each item was identified by a female name — as potential evidence of the purported scandal, Newsweek reported.

The prices for the cabinets — called Alyvia, Neriah, Samiyah and Yaritza — ranged from $12,699.99 to $14,499.99 each, according to a screenshot posted in the “r/conspiracy” subreddit.

“Is it possible Wayfair involved in Human trafficking with their WFX Utility collection? Or are these just extremely overpriced cabinets? (Note the names of the cabinets) this makes me sick to my stomach if it’s true :(,” user PrincessPeach1987 wrote Thursday.

The post quickly drew more than 700 comments from the subreddit’s 1.3 million members, including the assertion that “some of the names are missing children.”

“i cant access the cabinets anymore, but i remember a cabinet called Samiyah for like 12K, which is also a missing child from this month!” user coffeeismymuse added.

In a statement, Wayfair said, “There is, of course, no truth to these claims.”

“The products in question are industrial grade cabinets that are accurately priced,” the company said.

No mention of the Pillows that were priced the same way. And while they were being reported the price suddenly dropped form 10K to 40 bucks.

How about someone in China or wherever the products are made translated the price wrong and it got auto entered into the system?

What part of "“The products in question are industrial grade cabinets that are accurately priced,” the company said." do you have difficulty comprehending?

I'll try to use simpler English. The company confirmed (said it was right) the price.

Wrong. Wayfair’s own spokespeople say the cabinets were correctly priced.

I dont know what really is going on but it’s good to get all the facts either way.

wow, i’ve seen wacky high pricing on at least one website when looking up items. I wondered why the company would allow such mistakes. Never thought there was some other meaning for it, but i guess there could be.

Also, the one I saw yesterday said in the description that it needed no passport. A pillow that doesn’t need a passport?

“The products in question are industrial grade cabinets that are accurately priced,” the company said.”

Before the excuse was a computer glitch.

Also, many of these items have had their prices greatly reduced after the discovery. Which is it?

If you go to the Wayfair site and enter those names you get a variety of products. Some of them are quite expensive. NONE of them are the products on the supposed screenshot from the Reddit post.

You cannot, or at least I could not find really expensive storage cabinets with those names on the Wayfair site.

Wayfair is far too expensive. But child trafficking?

All will be revealed.

:: Wayfair confirms there is ‘no truth’ to conspiracy theories about human trafficking The online retailer Wayfair responded to reporters’ individual inquiries into a conspiracy theory that gained traction on Friday that it was allegedly using storage cabinets to ship children. ::

Read that gain...S L O W L Y.

Trafficking children by using storage cabinets is NOT what is alleged.
Actually, nothing is alleged.
Everything I’ve read indicates coordinating “open source” information to point the curious to think for themselves.
Prices are astronomical.
Why?
Names look strange for furniture.
Why?
Wayfair releases a statement about the questions being asked but...never defends its pricing.
Why?
Is it bias coinfirmation?
Maybe.
It is the definition of /fascism/ to censor those questions with which you don’t agree.
And even worse, to censor members of this forum because YOU think it makes FR look crazy.

OK, Karen.

Think for yourself and PLEASE don’t think for me.
YMMV

Wayfair is a third party seller site like eBay or amazon. The prices are astronomical either because of a database mistake or the seller is buying the items elsewhere and marking them up again.

You can see the same on Amazon where a book that you can buy for pennies is also offered for $500 by another seller. Are those overpriced amazon books also involved in child trafficking???? Obviously, not.

It’s better to say nothing....
