Grant, Sherman and Lincoln disagree. As would a good portion of all Union officers. Matter of fact. If this c-sucker knew anything about that time in history, he would know that as soon as the Army of N Virginia was surrendered, the Union officers who knew friends over on the confederate forces side got permission from Grant to go and visit. Meade for example, went over to visit Lee.

Families of some of those officers who fought on one side or the other? Now that was another matter. Stonewall Jacksons sister would have nothing to do with him after. George Thomases family wouldnt even attempt to return to kindness to talk to him. They hated him.

And this son of a bitch should be removed from the joint chiefs ASAP.

We are in the midst of the worst Constitutional crisis since the Civil War.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Did you miss that a Kenyan/Indonesia/British subject was sworn in as President in direct violation of our Constitution and not ONE or our elected OR appointed honored their oath to that Constitution?
The coup happened on Usurpation Day. January 20, 2009.
Exactly. Revisiting this now when no one alive today had a dog in the fight is disrespectful to the legacy of those on both sides who did.
Well Mr “Top US General”, I do believe it is time to defund the Military Complex. The Military Complex is siding with the Marxists.
Firing Miley and the other traitors isn’t going ruin their careers. They’ll slide onto high paid BOD do-nothing jobs as thanks for opposing Trump.
What Trump needs to take a hatchet to the defense budget. Slice a carrier off the Navy’s budget. Maybe a couple of divisions and a major weapons system off the Army’s order of battle. Same for the USAF, USMC and USCG. Democrats will be happy to help him there. THAT will get the attention of these insubordinate swamp generals. Guaranteed.
but they were never charged or convicted of the crime,
There was a reason for this....the North would have had to explain a lot of things leading up to the South deciding to secede.....Lincoln knew this would further antagonize the south so it was decided to forgive and forget(so to speak)!!!! Lincoln insisted that Grant go easy on the south for this reason!!!
Exactly. Revisiting this now when no one alive today had a dog in the fight is disrespectful to the legacy of reconciliation of those on all sides, colors and faiths who did have a dog in the fight and in the end decided to do what was best for the reunified country.
Had this little piss ant been under General Eisenhower's command - at any level, enlisted or officer - during WWII I'm am certain he would have been shipped home and separated from the service. General Eisenhower would have thought his comments a danger to the men and mission.
Right now, he is a danger to the military with his open contempt for the commander-in-chief.
First one to agree renaming bases gets a promotion.
They would have been exonerated....Lincoln knew secession was perfectly legal.
To say that the Constitution does not allow secession by a/multiple states means that one generation legally binds succeeding generations to the commitment they made to remain bound to the Union. This is like being bound to a contract your father made.
We need anther BRAC instead of base renaming commision. Somehow I think the military brass might change their insubordinate tune on renaming if they were in danger of losing some crown jewel bases. Wouldn’t it be a shame if the Navy and USMC lost some prime Southern California real estate? I wonder what the commercial value of Camp Pendleton is?
This comment is strange since the constitution that the officers had sworn to uphold and support allowed the states to withdraw their ascent to join the union.
Isn´t the general committing treason? Court martial would be good.
Love the tagline.
We’re in trouble when we have activist asses like this runnning our armed forces. He needs firing, and he needs firing yesterday (with loss of all retirement benefits).
I can’t imagine anything like this happening under Obama.
During Obama's admin, there was some dumbass general (McChrystal) in charge of the Afghan theater. He and his dumbass aide were hobnobbing with a reporter from Rolling Stone magazine (I *did* say he was a dumbass), and both of them made mocked Dem Senators and senior administration officials "off the record".
The remarks were published, and within days McChrystal was summoned to the White House, was rebuked and summarily dismissed. The next dumbass in line (Petraeus) took his place.
The whole affair took a few weeks.
To bring an end to hostilities and reunite the country, yes there was an agreement not to call southerners traitors. Lincoln gave them a full pardon. Those now calling them traitors are trying to reignite the war.
“And seccession is allowed for by the Constitution.”
Where does it say that?
Lincoln was gone long before the idea of treason trails could have come up. But Lincoln, for whatever reason, really wanted to put the nation back together again as easily and painlessly as possible. He always said the war was being fought to preserve the Union—that was his primary goal.
I’ve always thought that a really interesting “what if” question in history is if Lincoln hadn’t been assassinated. He wanted the nation reunited. The radical Republicans in Congress wanted the South punished. While the war was going on, Lincoln could use his authority as CinC to get things done. Once the war was over, Congress was ready to take charge. The fight between Lincoln and Congress wouldn’t have been pretty.
