Some times not. The 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 1st Corp of the Army of the Potomac was referred to as the “Black Hats” or the Black Hat Brigade”. Their other name was the “Iron Brigade”.
When I think of black hats I think of my instructors at airborne school at Ft. b
