Conservatives Should Feel No Investment in Confederate Monuments
National Review ^ | June 19th 2020 | RICH LOWRY

Posted on 06/20/2020 2:51:52 PM PDT by Ennis85

In the wave of cancellations sweeping America, Confederate statues have been particularly hard hit.

They have been graffitied, assaulted, and torn down, while authorities rush to remove them.

For his part, President Donald Trump has been a steadfast defender of the statues and other forms of recognition of the Confederacy. He has come out in favor of preserving the names of military bases named after Confederate generals and pointedly said that we should build on our heritage rather than tear it down.

Conservatives tend to think the same way. They reflexively oppose politically correct campaigns to destroy anything giving offense.

They fear where the slippery slope of woke iconoclasm will lead — first it’s Jefferson Davis, ultimately George Washington.

They value tradition and worry we are trashing part of our history.

This impulse, though, is a mistake. Confederate statues and symbols deserve to be reevaluated, and often mothballed.

The target is all symbols and reminders of history. Every Communist regime and every Moslem regime demands that the people believe that History started with themselves, that everything that went before is irrelevant or nonexistent. If no one knows history then they will believe anything they are told by “authorities.” They are not just targeting Democrat history but ALL history. That is why the subject is not taught in the schools any more which itself is why we cannot get the population back. The millennials to a large extant and the Zs almost entirely have no connection with reality and cause/effect as it played out in the past because they know nothing of the past. For them the Past started when they were born.

They are right, and they are wrong.

They are right in the sense this is not the hill to die on at this moment.

They are wrong in the sense that it ultimately does matter. But the symptom of the cancer requires a different approach. Congress isn't going to get it. Nor will state government. Nor will the judiciary. The solution must come from the people in the original sense of the word that holds ultimate power: the militia.

Post 1903 Dick Act: it is the unorganized militia; a category set forth in 10 USC Sect 246.

PM me if you want a copy of the project I am working on.

So let’s put it this way: We have mobs running around screaming about black lives, how they matter, how blacks are being mistreated by America, how the legal system is biased, etc. Instead of playing the Left’s game, how about we TELL THE DAMN TRUTH:

NONE OF THE PROBLEMS OF PRESENT DAY BLACK AMERICA HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH SLAVERY, SEGREGATION, OR “SYSTEMIC RACISM.” The problems have to do with urban black males who (many) are simply out of control. They are impulsive, violent, and have virtually no moral compass. They shoot one another. They loot stores. They rob......OK, now I know there will be some bleeding-heart that will say WHITES DO ALL OF THAT ALSO!!! Yes, but there are two BIG differences. Whites do it RARELY compared to urban blacks AND,more importantly, the white population in general DESPISES whites who engage in these acts. We don’t DEFEND their actions. WE CONDEMN their actions. Quit tearing statues down and tell your people to clean up their act!

We should, however, in the rule of law, Lowry.

There’s a right way to do this

Pardon the pun.

This article is out of date already with the idea that they are only after Confederate monuments.

In Frisco, they tore down the stature of General Grant.

“It seems National Review has outlasted its usefulness.”

A long time ago. They are a bunch of neocon, never-Trumpers.

Lowry is a globalist, neocon a$$hole. Besides being wrong about allowing our patrimony to be erased, the South is the GOP’s political power base. Why alienate it?

Rich Lowry....aka Dick Lowry, because that’s what he is...can go ESAD.

These Confederates were fighting because their home states were being invaded, with all the horrors that accompany an invasion.

Screw the “National Review.” Nothing more than a GOPe Never Trumper rag.

I would rather not have the National Anthem played before a professional league contest.

The Anthem will be relegated to an "amusement" spectacle of who can come up with the most original protest "touchdown", first down, sack, interception, big hit, slamdunk, home run, strike-out, goal, etc... marketable driven dance for the player's or coach's brand that decide to protest.

Why give players the forum? Commissioners and owners have bended their knee to allow protest to occur during the Anthem.

I am not so happy invested in the monuments, as I am in getting rid of the political party behind the civil war and slavery.

“”The statues are an unnecessary affront to black citizens, who shouldn’t have to see defenders of chattel slavery put on a pedestal, literally.””

These hypocrites still carry around pictures of dead slave owners in their wallets. If they’re that committed to avoiding seeing such horrors they should either burn them or give them to me for disposal.

Gee Rich, how about defacing monuments to black Civil War soldiers? Should we not have any emotional investment in those either? These insurrectionists vandalized the St. Gaudens monument to the black 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment that sits on Boston Common, across from the State House. They couldn’t have mistaken the figures of the black marching soldiers that are prominently displayed on it for white soldiers. There’s a statue of Union General Joseph Hooker, along with statues of Daniel Webster, Horace Mann, Anne Hutchinson and Amy Dyer, as well as John Fitzgerald Kennedy at the State House. When will those be defaced by these anarchists? The problem with these destroyers of history is that none of them have any sense of history. That’s because they don’t want any sense of history because America’s history isn’t a part of their plan. Creating a Communist revolution in this country, and wiping out all that has gone before, is what they are all about, and if you are too ignorant to see that, then may you should join them in their quest, because you sound an awful lot like them.
