A big effort to torpedo President Trump so that the Democrats can slip back into power is certainly out of character for Bolton.
I think Bolton's motives are purely about Bolton "slipping back into power".

I think Bolton's motives are purely about Bolton "slipping back into power". Certainly I don't understand Bolton. But I would be surprised if he expects a cushy job in the next Democrat administration.
