Dear KXAN, I just finished reading Erik Henrikson's article "Austins history of systemic racism, explained" and wanted to express my appreciation for his work writing that piece.
I think that's a great way to open the door on the honest conversation we need to have on race relations. I would like to propose you follow up on that article with another (could be a multi-part series?) titled "The Democratic Party's history of systemic racism, explained". I think it's important for voters to know, especially in this election year, that the democrat party has always been discriminatory (often, with violence, including lynchings, murder and rape) towards blacks in the United States.
A good starting point for your timeline could be the founding of the KKK and how it was all democrats who were members. Not one Republican has ever joined that despicable organization. You can also reference a famous US Senator (the late Robert C. Byrd D-West Va) as being a Grand Kleagle in the KKK and as recently as the mid-90's when he was still a sitting senator, he loves to throw around terms like "niggers" with impunity.
Another part of your upcoming series should deal with LBJ's Great Society legislation. During discussions with his advisors leading up to the vote for passing this legislation, LBJ (Democrat) claimed "We get this passed, we'll have the niggers voting democrats for 200 years!".
These 2 suggestions should be enough for you to get started on your new series "The Democratic Party's history of systemic racism, explained". I'll be looking forward to reading this on your pages in the near future!
Keep up the great work, KXAN!
LOL!! I am sure they are in production as we speak:)
Excellent.
