The Baltimore mayoral seat that was vacated last year when Catherine Pugh resigned over a corruption scandal -- which led to a three-year prison sentence -- now appears likely to be filled by a former mayor who has a past conviction of her own.
With Democratic primary returns still coming in after Tuesday’s vote, the front-runner appears to be Sheila Dixon, who resigned as mayor in 2010 after a jury found her guilty of misdemeanor embezzlement for misappropriating gift cards for the poor.
Dixon leads a pack of more than 20 Democratic candidates that includes current Acting Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young, who took office when Pugh stepped down in May 2019 amid allegations related to sales of her self-published children’s book. Pugh ultimately pleaded guilty in November to fraud, conspiracy, and tax-related charges, and in February was sentenced to three years in prison.

Sheesh. If Baltimore re-elects Dixon, they deserve her.
Mayor was convicted of racketeering and corruption, spent a few years in Federal prison, then got re-elected a couple of years ago.
Then there's Mayor Marion Barry of DC - crack conviction in between two terms. Like a crack-mayor cookie.

Don’t understand why the Republican Party doesn’t have candidates that can run in these big cities. Sonny Johnson has been talking about this forever. That the GOP doesn’t build up local candidates.

Well, she has the right experience. Who is better for the job than someone who has done the job?
Dem voters know their candidates are crooks. Dem voters are crooks themselves.
There’s still plenty of graft & fraud that needs to be done. This way they don’t need to re-train anyone.
Yeah, she can hit the ground running.
Aaand the cycle continues. Are the police chief and DA also black?
This is another example of the Black community showing its complete lack of concern about what happens to them as a whole.
They know this person is a crook, they know this person is going to do absolutely nothing for their community, but they will elect her and then go “its whiteys fault for all of our problems”.
So sick of these people.

Yet another reason that universal suffrage (for both men and women) was *the* biggest mistake this country ever made.
Shouldn’t take her more than a day or two to start embezzling again. She’s exhibited the ability to steal, I suspect that it may be a bit harder to detect this time.
She’s probably had the opportunity to learn how to hide it better from people that might have 4 more brain cells that she met in prison.
These people are just too stupid for self government
Who knows? Maybe she learned some useful things in the joint too.
