Robert Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, told CNBC on Monday the U.S. government should provide $14 trillion of reparations for slavery to help reduce racial inequality. The wealth divide and police brutality against blacks are at the heart of protests that have erupted across the nation following last week’s killing of George Floyd during an arrest in Minneapolis.
“Now is the time to go big” to keep America from dividing into two separate and unequal societies, Johnson said on “Squawk Box.”

Just tell me first what we get out of the deal.
Subtract the cost of the Civil War and reparations for every dead and injured union soldier. Subtract the cost of reconstruction which resulted in a lot of dead and terrorized Republicans. Appreciation for those who died to keep us free is reparation enough.

The ones least accepting of this deal who Asians or Indians who’ve arrived in the past forty years. Once you talk about a series of taxes (putting another $1,500 a year of tax impact on your back)....they will shake their heads.

Since I’ve some time on my hands, I did a little math. I come up with a payment of $325,000 per black. Now who counts as ‘black’? Somalis who came here 100 years after slavery ended? Barack Obama, whose black father and ancestors were never slaves in America? Black Trump voters? (Just kidding, of course not!)
Now the money has to come from somewhere? Taxes levied only on non-blacks? Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Irish Americans, non of whom had much to do with chattel slavery in America?
And will the tax payers pay their taxes willingly? Happily? Seems like there might have to be a few details to work out.
Why in the world would I pay for an action I did not commit, to a people who were not wronged by said action?
OK, Mr. Johnson. As soon as we deduct the monies expended on every black who spent their entire life collecting welfare, housing assistance, Medicaid, food stamps, school lunches, benefitting from drug programs, having to be policed, subsequent jailing, etc. for themselves and all the illegitimate children they brought into the world without the ability to pay for their rearing, for multiple generations. I think YOU would end up owing US a great deal of money.
Why not 140 Trillion? Let’s not be chintzy.
