China Says It Will Use Military Force to Take Control of Taiwan If Diplomacy Fails

Chinese general has warned that Beijing will not rule out the use of force to take control of Taiwan, as the Chinese Communist Party closed its annual National People's Congress in Beijing.

General Li Zuocheng, the chief of the Joint Staff Department and member of the Central Military Commission, said Friday that while peaceful diplomacy is preferred, China will consider using force to establish control over Taipei as part of its "One China" policy.

"If the possibility for peaceful reunification is lost, the people's armed forces will, with the whole nation, including the people of Taiwan, take all necessary steps to resolutely smash any separatist plots or actions," Li said, according to Reuters.

Taiwan, officially called the Republic of China (RoC), sits 80 miles from the Chinese coast across the Taiwan Strait. It has been independent for more than 70 years, having emerged from the last bastion of the nationalist forces that lost the Chinese Civil War to the CCP. It became the RoC capital in 1949.

Get ready to nuke China then. Allowing communist expansionism is a failed policy.

All free nations should refer to Taiwan as an independent nation and ally with it.

You don’t. This is the anniversary of their Anti-Secession Law from fifteen years ago, that is, saber-rattling at it’s finest. That’s why a “general” said it and not someone important (like Winnie).

These people in Taiwan, have been free for generations now. IMagine what you would do, if tomorrow, a foreign invader comes here, and tries to take our freedom of life away.

Taiwan will not go quietly.

It’s another example of, what prior US Administrations have done to us.

It’s like before the Civil War here. You had weak presidents before.

We’ve had weak presidents since Reagan, culminating in the last two POSs.

1) Recognize Taiwan as an independent nation.
2) Withhold all money to the UN until it also recognizes Taiwan as an independent nation.
3) Withhold all support to the Olympics until Taiwan is allowed to participate.

You’re bluffing China.

WHO is bluffing China?
Or
Was your remark to China telling them that they were bluffing?
I assume it's the latter.

And I know that you are correct. China can't afford to NOT have US trade--cheap good for the frugal, lets-make-a-deal-Americans.

Too bad we're too cheap to buy American 100% of the time. THAT would send China up the wall--their own "Great Wall." They only like us "round eyes" to SELL to.

I’ve been to Taiwan, and I’m not at all convinced they have the interest in, or ability to, depend themselves from China’s Communists.

10-15% of Taiwanese already live in China. Their “elites” all carry foreign passports, and either already have their mistresses and assets in China, or have other foreign bolt-holes prepared. Few if any Taiwan youth want to join the Army. I sense very few are willing to put their lives on the line for “freedom.” They’ve exchanged Chiang Kai-shek hard statism, to Canadian/EU style PC and soft nanny-statism in 2 generations.

But ultimately, its their call. I just don’t want American boys and girls dying for that.

I wonder if we will hear from the Dalai Lama. He was the last leader to lose a country to China, 1949.
