The outrage this week from non-medical professionals over President Donald Trump reportedly being prescribed hydroxychloroquine reached such a fevered pitch that White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany was forced to address it Wednesday.
Except instead of giving the partisan rancor any credence, she promptly dismissed the outrage and laid out some actual facts — facts backed by medical science, that is. And in laying out the facts, she also “drop-kicked” (as some have put it) the president’s troglodytic critics back into the caves from whence they came.

“[A]s with any drug and as with any prescription, it should be given by a doctor to a patient in that context. So no one should be taking this without a prescription from their doctor,” she began.

“But that being said, I’ve seen a lot of apoplectic coverage of hydroxychloroquine,” McEnany continued. “You had Jimmy Kimmel saying the president’s ‘trying to kill himself by taking it.’ You had Joe Scarborough saying, ‘this will kill you,'” McEnany continued.
“Neil Cavuto saying, ‘what have you got to lose? On one thing you have to lose are lives.’ And you had Chris Cuomo saying, ‘the president knows that hydroxychloroquine is not supported by science. He knows it has been flagged by his own people and he’s using it.'”
Unlike White House physician Ronny Jackson, neither Kimmel, Scarborough, Cavuto nor Cuomo is a licensed medical professional.
McEnany then zeroed in her fact-checking on Cuomo, whose criticism of the president has been particularly nasty and fact-free.
“Cuomo mocked the president for this, and interestingly — I found this out just before coming here — hydroxychloroquine, of course, is an FDA approved medication with a long proven track record for safety,” McEnany said.
“And it turns out that Chris Cuomo took a less safe version of it called quinine, which the FDA removed from the market in 2006 because of its serious side effects, including death. So really interesting to have that criticism of the president.”
Cuomo’s wife, Cristina, boasts a wellness blog, and in a post published in April, around the time that her husband was in a fake coronavirus quarantine, she wrote that his “corona protocol” did indeed include quinine.
McEnany appeared to be suggesting that Cuomo has no room to lecture anybody else about medical science when he’s been consuming a drug that’s reportedly been deemed by actual medical scientists to be unsafe.
She continued by taking one final shot at Cuomo.
“And on that note to Chris Cuomo, I’d like to redirect him to his brother, the Governor of New York, Governor Cuomo, who has several on the record statements about hydroxychloroquine saying, ‘I’m an optimist. I’m hopeful about the drug and that’s why we’ll try it here in New York as soon as we get it. There has been anecdotal evidence that it’s promising. That’s why we’re going ahead,'” she said.
That’s true, though to be fair, the New York governor made the remarks back in March.

Since then, multiple studies have emerged about the drug’s effectiveness. Naturally, the far-left mainstream press have chosen to only highlight the negative ones.
“A decades-old malaria medicine touted by the president as a coronavirus treatment showed no benefit for patients hospitalized in New York,” Politico eagerly reported last week.
“There was also no noticeable advantage for patients that took the drug paired with the antibiotic azithromycin, according to hotly anticipated research published Monday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.”
Yet when another study emerged just one day later showing the exact opposite, Politico and its peers in the partisan press were nowhere to be found.
“Researchers at NYU’s Grossman School of Medicine found patients given the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine along with zinc sulphate and the antibiotic azithromycin were 44 percent less likely to die from the coronavirus,” local station NY1 reported.
“The study looked at the records of 932 COVID-19 patients treated at local hospitals with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. More than 400 of them were also given 100 milligrams of zinc daily. Researchers said the patients given zinc were one and a half times more likely to recover, decreasing their need for intensive care. One theory is that hydroxychloroquine may aid a cell’s ability to absorb the zinc which has antiviral properties and responds to the infection.”
Ultimately, the drug’s effectiveness still remains undetermined, though you won’t hear that from the propaganda press. Meanwhile, the same people who say medical decisions concerning abortion ought to involve just a patient and her doctor have felt compelled to express the exact opposite sentiment in light of Trump being prescribed hydroxychloroquine.
It’s almost as if these people have zero principles except for #OrangeManBad. Sadly, it’s a principle that Michigan state Rep. Karen Whitsett is all too familiar with.

I am impressed with Kayleigh. Shes a tough lady, and she doesn’t take crap from anyone. She is doing fine in a high profile job.
