Neurosurgeon Says Face Masks Pose Serious Risk to Healthy People
PJ Media ^ | May 14, 2020 | Megan Fox

Every Karen on Facebook is shaming her neighbors for not wearing a face mask. We are being told by governors that if we don’t wear masks we are selfish, horrible human beings with no souls who want Grandma to die a horrible death. Police are tackling people who don’t wear face masks properly in the subway. Grocery stores are throwing maskless people out and denying them service.

But now, there’s another doctor weighing in—besides Dr. Fauci, bonafide sex god and ruler of us all, who also said face masks are largely security theater and of no use to the healthy. Dr. Russell Blaylock, a neurosurgeon, has written an editorial saying that “masks pose serious risks to the healthy.”

Even though I think the “science” behind it is questionable, I’m not hostile to governments recommending, not mandating, the wearing of masks (i) only for brief periods in enclosed public spaces, and (ii) only after consulting with a physician for people with certain medical conditions.
I say the science is questionable because while there is mixed evidence that cloth or surgical masks can plausibly serve as source control in laboratory conditions, there is little to no real evidence that it is effective for source control for the general public in real world conditions. There are also no studies of the risks of wearing non-standard, home made masks by untrained, unsupervised people without medical guidance. Yes, the author may be a kook, but the concerns he raises are legitimate and he is hardly the first to raise them. Those concerns are the basis for the OSHA regs I cited elsewhere in this thread.

Well stated. And POTUS said it was NOT mandatory. POTUS isn’t wearing a mask. He’s very knowledgeable and smarter that many—I think I’ll give a lot of consideration to following POTUS’s example.

It says that if you arr sick a mask can make it more severe. It also says that if you arr not sick it can weaken your immune system so you can catch the Corona. Is that so hard to understand chicken little?

“The mask is to prevent sick from spreading it. We don’t know who is sick, and sick people can be asymptomatic, hence the masks. Is it that hard to understand?”

Not for people with a brain and no particular agenda. Of course, those criteria really cut down on the number of people who understand.

To me it's this simple:

If wearing masks work, why did businesses need to be closed?

And if wearing a mask doesn't work, why are we being forced to wear them?

There is one in Nature Magazine in April that says masks are effective for Coronavirus.

Would that be this article? Because it's about surgical face masks. It says nothing about the homemade variety.

Yep, they are great for particulate work (helps with glasses fogging up too), but not so much for viruses.

Of course I’m very nice I say nothing I say “ hello” and smile

. Is it that hard to understand?

Science tells us the virus droplets are too small to be stopped by the surgical and bandanna mask; in or out of the one wearing it. It also tells if you’re wearing an N95 they must be professionally fitted and used once and tossed away to be somewhat effective. What part of this fails to register with you as you walk around with a condom on your face trying to bring the pandemic to its knees?

Do you have a study with hard data on the number of people infected by asymptomatic carriers?

All I’ve seen in the studies I’ve read so far are models, inferences, and estimates, with ridiculously high error bars, but no hard data.

Quarantine— restricting an infected party from traveling outside a boundary.

Internment— restricting a healthy person to remain in encampment.

Chinese were wearing masks long before the pandemic to ward off particulate pollution illnesses. Lot of good that did to prevent the pandemic in their cities.

Mask wearing isn’t the same as being interned, at all.

You could look at it like a mandatory seatbelt law, or you can look at it like a mandate to have working brakes and steering.

And most masks are the equivalent of stopping your car with your feet. Works for Fred Flintstone, but not in real life.

Back in the day people wore magic amulets to protect them from evil and especially the evil eye. In todays society face masks are the new amulet to protect from the evil virus and the evil eye of social shamers.
