Nurse busted for stealing dead coronavirus patient’s credit card...
NY POST ^ | May 7, 2020 | Tina Moore

A nurse was arrested Thursday morning for stealing the credit card of a dead Staten Island coronavirus patient and using it to make purchases, police said.

Danielle Conti, 43, of Old Bridge, NJ, was working at Staten Island University Hospital North when she took the credit card of a 70-year-old man who had died of COVID-19 on April 12, cops said.

She was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny, according to police.

She spent less than $100 on the man’s American Express card, police allege. It was not immediately clear what she bought.

The man’s 37-year-old daughter discovered the charges and walked into a Staten Island police precinct station house to report the malfeasance on April 28, cops said.

A hospital spokesman said Conti, who has been an employee there since 2007, was suspended.

It was unclear whether she would be paid during the suspension.

“Danielle Conti has been temporarily suspended and faces termination in response to the felony charges,” the spokesman said. “We are working closely with the law-enforcement authorities and the hospital is conducting its own investigation.”

The picture of the nurse is on the NY POST Website... She has a tattoo on the upper chest area...

She was cited and released...She has to show up to the court later.

Less than $100 on the credit card...

I think she probably will end up getting probation for this...No jail time...

I think most nurses are fine...But, there are some exceptions like this lady...

She will probably get a nursing job somewhere else after she gets fired from Staten Island hospital...

Could the state revoke her nursing license for this? I am not sure about that...

The state could do that. The Board of registered nursing will have to investigate. If 1st offense more likely suspension of license for set period of time

In California at one time there were nurses who were renewing their licenses from prison. That loophole was closed.

It takes someone “special” to steal from a patient. I would guess it wasn’t the first time. Maybe the first time caught.

Well, he certainly wasn’t using the card anymore. /sarc

Staten Island jive turkey alert. Maybe she’ll work at a Waffle House after incarceration.

DANG!

Conti was given a desk-appearance ticket and will be arraigned at a later date, the Staten Island District Attorney’s Office said.

Yes, we don't want her to get Wu Flu in the Tombs. No bail, don'tcha know. /sarc

This stuff probably happens a lot. When my mother in law was at a convalescent home for a month her phone was stolen. But I thought valuable items are taken away when admitted?

I should clarify my post. I have no idea if it was a healthcare person that was responsible for the missing phone. Could have been a cleaning lady. Sorry for generalizing.

Oh yes.

The state revokes licenses for any criminal activity whether proven or not.

Stealing from the dead is pretty low.....throw her a parade.

After she is an heroic health care worker..

She’s in the NYS Office of the Professions license database:

Name : CONTI DANIELLE
Address : OLD BRIDGE NJ
Profession : REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSING
License No: 696306
Date of Licensure : 02/24/2015
Additional Qualification :
Status : REGISTERED
Registered through last day of : 07/20

She is subject to an enforcement action if she is convicted of a crime.

Considering the allegation is that she stole a card from a deceased patient where she worked cared / care for, and that it has now received national attention, my guess is that NYS will take a pretty dim view of that, and that she is toast.

Maybe she could apply for the license in some other state...She would still have to disclose criminal convictions...
