Expect N.J. coronavirus lockdown for weeks. But ‘there’s a shot’ at Memorial Day, Murphy says.

Though the six-point road map he unveiled Monday to start rolling back New Jersey’s coronavirus near-lockdown did not include any timeframe, Gov. Phil Murphy offered some faint hope that some type of Memorial Day weekend could be salvaged in four weeks.

“I think there’s a shot," Murphy said during his daily coronavirus press briefing in Trenton. “I’m not sure I have a crisp answer for you on Memorial Day. Memorial Day is four weeks from today. I know what it normally is and I love it, and I hope it can be some form of that.”

Murphy said the strategy to begin reopening the state includes vastly increasing testing, which could be in place by the end of May. He said the stay-at-home and business closure orders will remain in place indefinitely until the points on his roadmap are met and the restrictions may be gradually lifted without a resurgence in cases and deaths.

“It stinks," the governor said. "The alternative is worse.”

He said he expects the indefinite restrictions to continue for weeks.

“I’m not sure it’s months,” Murphy said. "I hope that we have some semblance of norm on the Shore this summer.”

He said the stay-at-home and business closure orders will remain in place indefinitely until...

...all privately owned businesses expire. Sort of like holding a pillow over someone's head. Got to make sure they're not just mostly dead but all dead.

I've declared all the NJ beaches open for Memorial Day weekend. The way I see it, I have as much right to do it as the governor. I appointed myself Commissioner of Beaches for the state, and made myself a badge, so I think I have a little bit more right than Murphy.

You're welcome citizens of New Jersey. Enjoy the beach!

And as the President of the newly formed Bar and Restaurant Re-Open Commission I hereby say that ALL places of food and beverage establishments be open for business!

Enjoy a steak and a beer!

Message to Governor Phil, from a NJ resident. Go F yourself. I live at the shore. My family will be coming down. We will go to the beach, fish and crab. We’ll also party like its 1999. I have no control over whether the restaurants will be open, but I do have control over my grill, my deck and my yard. Amendment 1 to the Constitution protects my god given right to peacefully assemble. The only thing that will make it non-peaceful, is if you and your government thugs try to stop us.

The research coming out of Stanford is confirming that the “lockdowns” (by definition, you cannot “lockdown” or “quarantine” healthy people. We’re *interned*) are keeping people sicker longer. We have created a nation of Petri dishes. And we’re blocking the natural development of her immunity.

If not for herd immunity, some plague would have wiped our entire species out long ago.

The last thing that blue state tyrants want is for you to be healthy and productive. AOC wants you to boycott work entirely. ScatFranNan thinks you should write poetry.

So, extending polices that will make you sicker and terrorizing you into buying their bs is completely on point.

Man, this is really jamming me up. Came back up here to help out with some family stuff. Brought the family here from Ga,as we are trying to nudge my mom and dad to sell the home and come down to Ga.

They’ve had the same home for 50 years. I’m trying to tell him to sell while there is some worth.

We are at the Jersey shore. I grew up here. This will crush so many people. The whole summer tourism thing. Boom.

Regular stuuf? Closed. I wanted to get a watch repaired, not necessary, but I can’t.

They actually taped off the playground set like a crime scene.

I’m seriously thinking of renting a large sprinter and trailer, going back to Ga. At least we can do things at our discretion and assumption of risk.

I think NJ was fortunate it’s been crappy weather. It might be a ok weekend this upcoming weekend. There is a good chance the populace says enough.

All our spring clothes are still packed since we came up here in November. That helps at the moment.

I bet there’s gonna be some neat yard and liquidation sales soon, around here. Especially boats. I saw some shocking pineapple deals already.

Lake Altoona, Red Hill Mtn boat ramp is 8 miles from our Ga. home. We got 3200 sq foot house on two acres, and a gym in my basement. A inexpensive whaler at the Petro prices will be great. I’ll throw our belongings in the hull, lol.

We have 5 kids, 4-11 (a set of 7years old twin boys).

My wife, my parents, two dogs, groceries and supplies

I might have to do it. Then fly them back in a couple of months or something.

This is nonsense.

I had a local police officer roll up on me at 7:40 the other night when I was walking the family pomeranian. Asking if I was aware of the 8pm curfew.

But, the food has been great.

My wife wants out of here under the current circumstances of Phil the Ego Murhp.

Plus, she’s cold, she says.

So, if it was up to me, we would be packing right now.

The situation sucks here.

More than usual.

Let’s encourage this.

Murphy should have completely destroyed what was left of the “economy” in NJ by then, which means that a Rat stronghold will be gone. Half his state is probably packing right now, headed South.

Not a great thing for the South to endure but it means that Phil will be talking to empty cities in the not too distant future.

Maybe his buddies in China will give him a job ruling over them.

Governor Murphy;

Why aren't the self employed in New Jersey receiving payments yet?

The federal government never should have agreed to let you and your administration handle that money.

And why can't the people who paid into unemployment get their payments?

Where is the money?

He isn’t talking to empty cities; he’s talking to cities he (and Cuomo in neighboring NY) has filled with foreigners as “sanctuaries”. The flight of businesses and the Americans that work for them is killing this whole area, and they’ll reach (if they haven’t already) the tipping point where there are not enough skilled English-speakers for anyone to even move a business here. It is a McJob/bodega public assistance economy, and this whole situation is making it worse.

This situation sucks in northern NJ, but along the shore where the fiscal year is four months long (at best) it will be even worse. I don’t know how the business owners will get their foreign workforce there to open up, even if they are allowed to.

We are at out home in Cobb County, Ga.

Had to do it for everyone’s well being. Not because Ga. Is open, that’s nice plus, but with everything going and the uncertainty of things.

My parents are with us. They have a small bungalow to them selves, but are more than welcome to be in the main house.

The kids are excited, we’ve been away for 6-7 months.

Its quiet. Its warm.

I hope it calms down in NJ. My mom and dad house is on the water. It’s my boyhood home.

I think is the last summer my mom and dad will live there.

I hope we can have August & September. The earliest we are coming back is July.

Maybe mid June. It’s a long drive.

Can you imagine the loss the average slum lord beach rental guy in Belmar and ‘squan is watching evaporate?? Poof! 7k, easy.

The fellas I know at Belford Sea co-OP are running and so is pt pleasant.

The boardwalk being shut? Crushing.

Should be interesting.

Phil Murphy is a bit high on himself. And, you can get locked in Jersey, as you know.

Surrounded by water except the north east border by you.

In Ga.? I got lots of areas to move too. If have too.

Be safe.

Our 9 & 11 year old has been spoiled with great pizza and chinese food. Life might never be the same for them in Ga. lol

Glad everyone is well, safe, and outta Jersey!

One of my sons (along with his friends) is backing out of their Memorial Day weekend rental at the shore; I’d imagine everyone else is doing the same (while they can do so within the contract). The southern part of the shore (around Atlantic City) was already screwed; the PA casinos gave them a run for their money and some nice towns down there have been leading the state in foreclosures as a result.

A lot of landlords in the NYC area are looking for property tax relief as a result of the de facto rent strike going on (since evictions have been suspended for a few months); I don’t know where that will lead, or how it impacts those shore rentals - they are real moneymakers!

As for the shore businesses, I suspect many will be ruined if they can’t open soon; we’ve had crappy weather up here for weeks, but it is starting to break and people are going out regardless of “stern warnings” from the governments. The politicians are still sounding the alarms to keep their iron grip on the people, but more and more will just open on their own; I’ve noticed on my own street that over the past few weeks there are far less cars parked during the weekdays - people are already returning one way or another.

NJ and NY are reaping what they’ve sown for the past couple of decades; they’ve taxed the good employers and some of the best employees out of the state, and replaced them with Thirdworlders (many dependent on public assistance) just to keep the infrastructure occupied (to keep the government worker caste employed). Now they can’t get those “replacement Americans” to abide by any regulations at all (not just with the virus, but with paying taxes and such). For all the talk about a “cashless society”, NJ within the past couple of years passed a law forcing businesses to accept cash payments. While I have no objection in principle (after all, we want to be paid with something with value, and I prefer cash to electronic transactions for day-to-day spending), the fact is that growing segments of our economy here are black market/underground economy operations - more and more people only receive cash as pay, more and more landlords only accept cash for rents (in illegally-converted, uninspected, untaxed apartments), and more and more businesses ONLY accept cash - and openly post signs saying so (it isn’t just pizzerias doing that anymore).

The rule of law doesn’t even apply to many people here, and those law-abiding people are taxed to death to cover the shortfall. This virus will drive even more productive people and companies out, and the governments know it.

Be safe!

I met my wife in Atlanta in 2007. I was 36. Lived in Jersey all my life. Yep, it’s totally bad.

Homes are for sale everywhere. I guess people from NYC are moving in this area even more.

The one thing my parents have is a view and direct access to the beach.

My dad was a lineman for Jersey Central Power and Light for 35 years. Honorably discharged combat designated USMC Viet Nam Ribbon.

He grew up in Abury Park since 9.

I’m surprised I pried him out of Jersey. I think he is giving up,too.

Get this, my mom is a retired educator. She’s got 3 state pensions. She started off in admin. Then education. Then board. Picking up matching pension in each one.

The taxes in their municipality and state is almost 10k. 2400 sq ft house on 1/3 acre owned 50 years.

My taxes? 2,100. They went up because of that dang Braves Stadium. The one downtown just fine to lose in ;).

In the past 3 years or so, many more tri state area people have moved near me.

My polling station looked like the new part of Manalapan, NJ or Old Bridge,NJ. District 6 is so screwed if we dont recognize this. The this is Lucy McBeth seat now, she “lives” around corner from us.

Its Newts old seat. Kar Kar Handle are her way thru it and couldn’t manage to campaign.

A Stacy Adam’s personality can step right in. It will happen.

The apartments in or area are part of a ok school system, so you got a lot off “drop offs” at the bus stop. Those kids are from the inner city.

But, we are here. All good.

Take care.

One trend that has officials worried in both NY and NJ is the number of people who no longer wait for retirement to leave here; many now just wait until the last child finishes high school (not even college - they can go cheaper to better out-of-state schools as non-residents than they’d pay here to go as in-state residents. In response, NY offers “free tuition” - with the stipulation that you remain in the state after graduation for every year of tuition they’ve given you (basically indentured servitude to work it off, most likely in one of the crappy McJobs still left there) - or you pay it back. I’ve had several co-workers go down to the Carolinas or Florida after the last child graduates high school.

Young childless workers see no point in staying at all, except maybe family; the cost of living (especially taxes) are too high, from a time when we had better jobs around. They understand clearly that they are subsidizing the children of foreigners trafficked here to keep the schools open (because Americans have so few).
