As of Wednesday night, the state had the fifth-most confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the fifth-most deaths from the virus in the U.S.
The economic toll has been even more striking. Since March 14, about 1.3 million Pennsylvanians (or nearly 1 in 5 workers in the state) have lost their jobs the second-highest number during that period in the country, behind only California.
...the political fallout for Trump in Pennsylvania is already significant and is likely to remain stark unless the public health and economic situations improve dramatically before Nov. 3.
Mark Harris, a Pittsburgh-based GOP strategist...warned that even if Trump navigates the public health waters with a best case outcome, were still looking at a major economic upheaval, certainly in Pennsylvania, that promises to be the defining discussion of the fall campaign.
Hell be judged on what the economy looks like here in November, Harris said.
A Public Policy Polling survey released April 1 showed that 49 percent of voters in the state said they disapproved of Trumps handling of the pandemic. Forty-six percent said they approved of his handling. (By comparison, 62 percent of respondents said they approved of the job Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, was doing in responding to the crisis, compared to just 20 percent who said they disapproved.)
Field, the former PoliticsPA.com editor, noted that the likeliest path to a narrow victory in Pennsylvania will go through two counties: Lackawanna (where Scranton is) and Luzerne (where Wilkes-Barre is).
Both counties have undergone recent economic revitalizations that would be likely be destroyed by a bad recession which, he and others argued, would hurt Trump more than it would hurt Biden.
If you have a sharp recession, youll see Trump struggling in those areas, he said.

The dope's original shutdown orders looked like something that was written up with crayons. Steel mills were allowed to stay open but coal mines were forced to close. What kind of idiot in a steel-producing state would ever do such a thing?
A lot of Pittsburg steel is going into The Wall.
Governor Tommie the Commie and the Tranylvania Trannie aka Dr. (Dickless) “Rachel” Levine are determined to keep Pennsylvania midnight blue.
Condition “Red” is right now.
Condition “Yellow” “might” happen if we socially difference (didn’t know that was a verb) adequately for the next 10 days but only for the NW and NC.
Condition “Green”—if it ever happens—won’t really be a relaxing.
But Hersheypark is planning to open in June. What does Her$hey Ho$pitality know that we don’t know?
And who have they paid off?
The data for deaths related to age are conspicuously absent from the PA Dept of Health website at least, I didnt see it. They have the charts for deaths broken down by sex and color, though.
Total bull chit
The rat governors of rat states will keep their prisoners at home and out of work and blame trump
Indeed. Imagine Michigan and Pennsylvania with mail in voting
While the governor kept his business in operation even though his company was denied a waiver. So that fact may come back to bite Democrats in their rears.
Fiction
What is the coronavirus illness ratio to health people in both cities/counties and where did the virus come from? Any bets it came from New York City?
Who runs NY - fascista Cuomo and Communist DeBlasio. Who runs Pennsylvania? Madman “I’m a Democrat failure” Wolfe.
Do I detect some correlations here?
“So, the Democrat governor of Pennsylvania wrecks the economy with one of the most draconian shutdowns in the country (using the standard of “life-sustaining” rather than “essential” to shut down even more businesses).
Abetted by many on this Forum most of which are still afraid and will keep us locked-down while they accept a check from the government for their sustenance.
there’s been a whole slew of these “Trump Will Have a Hard Time in XYZ State” articles this past week in various fake stream enemedia outlets ... seems like this must be what the DNC memo this week told them to emphasize ... but i don’t understand what good these kinds of articles do except for make the media feel good about themselves, because they certainly will not influence Donald Trump supporters ... seems to me all that these kinds of articles might do is make some Democrat voters complacent ...
Everyone here knows any of this is not PDJT's fault.
Fracking and coal drive the PA economy outside of Filthadelphia and "Da 'Burgh" and Biden and the dems hate them.
Us gun and Bible clinging "common folk"" are repulsed by having an ugly man pretending to be a woman telling us how to manage our lives.
It’s interesting that Wolf is allowing Penn-Dot construction to do road work now....
.....”Any bets it came from New York City”....
In Eastern PA it absolutely did without question as Debasio and Cuomo refused to act. I was watching closely when it hit NY City and New Jersey then started to hit E.PA....lots of people in Eastern PA work in both their states. Had they shut it down it would have never esculated in E.Pa as it did...Instead they both were encouraging people to go about their daily life.....I was so livid!...and then New Yorkers were getting out of NY City into Pa. and refused to close the border....instead Cuomo declared himself the Czar of the East coast and all the Governors had to do what he said.
Wolf jumped into Cuomo’s pocket declaring they were “in this together”.
We didn’t vote for Cuomo to run PA. nor Wolf to jump ship and hand the reins to Cuomo!!! And my state representative heard my voice on that loud and clear!
Unions are special.
I believe the old Roman saying was Dont change horses in the middle of the stream.
Wartime presidents usually get re-elected because people dont want to change leaders in the middle of a fight. And if this Coronavirus mess isnt a fight, I dont know what is. I think that works in Trumps favor.
