Dr. Fauci Condemns Protesters Clamoring for End to Lockdown: Premature Reopening Will ‘Backfire’

Amid growing unrest in several states about the ongoing lockdown, Dr. Anthony Fauci is urging protesters not to demonstrate, and arguing that a premature reopening would “backfire.”

Appearing on Good Morning America Monday, George Stephanopoulos asked the infectious disease expert what his message is for those who have been protesting.

“I think the message is that, clearly, this is something that is hurting from the standpoint of economics, from the standpoint of things that have nothing to do with the virus,” Fauci said. “But unless we get the virus under control, the real recovery, economically, is not going to happen.”

I know many freepers don’t like to hear it, but we need mass testing in order to open the economy.

Trump and Pence can go to those daily briefing because they’re getting tested, as both of them have said

The rest of us can’t get tested unless we’re showing symptoms - and in many places you need to be severe enough to be hospitalized before you can get tested

The way to make customers confident about going to restaurants, stores and sports is mass testing so people can be reasonably certain the folks they’re interacting with are not carriers. Until then, many people will avoid public places out of fear.

If testing didn’t make sense, they wouldn’t be testing Trump and Pence so they can go about their jobs. And Taiwan wouldn’t be using it to keep people working and their economy open

Why mass testing? Antibodies are widespread in USA already and this is similar to a flu. Why do you panic so much? Why do you accept the democrat way of testing and tracing, which is stupid? Why don’t you embrace freedom?

Fowchee doesn’t know the first thing about economics and what makes this country run. He’s a protected class government hack that’s just as much on board to take Trump down as Pelosi.

The test isn’t WuFlu exclusive, anyway....

Enough of this nonsense

That’s it.

AND, if one of the many proposed and existing mitigating therapies damp down the rate of developing harsh symptoms, why mass testing? So we can all wear Bill Gates’ brand on our foreheads?

It only “backfires” if deaths exceed 2.2 million.

Remember, Fauci?

Is Trump panicking? He doesn't subscribe to that 'similar to the flu' BS that you seem to. He's taking this pretty seriously.

Tell you what, “Dr.” Fauci, forego your 400,000 dollar salary until this is over and then get back to us.

I don’t mean this question to be confrontational but if I am tested today and the result is negative, what prevents me becoming infected next week or even tomorrow? Shouldn’t everyone be tested weekly? How often do we need tested?

Mass testing is useless...you can test negative this morning and positive this afternoon if you just picked it up...all it does is say the virus was undetectable at the time of the test...that’s why the fake news group gets tested every day just before the briefings...once things are starting to move, antibody testing can indicate numbers who have had the bug and got over it and as data comes in, it may indicate a percentage is at least temporarily immune.

Trump has made mistakes on this...in part because of Democrat people like Fauci advising him.

there is a blanket of fear over so many people, even suspected conservatives. These people are ushering in socialism and communism, all with the fake excuse of fear

If nobody joins in these protests, then this lockdown will never end. Seeing these protesters is a beautiful sight to behold. It means there are still some Americans left who value Liberty.

The lockdown was done to “slow the spread”. We’ve done that. We are not going to completely eradicate this virus by locking ourselves in our homes while the tyrants consolidate their power through fear and intimidation.

Eventually all of us are going to be exposed to this virus. That includes me and you and your grandmother and Trump and everyone. You can’t hide forever. And we can’t hide for two years while they develop a vaccine that is not going to be effective against the next pandemic.

It’s past time to return to normal. Get over your irrational fear. If your number is up, it’s up.

These protests are necessary. If you have one near you, join it.

we need mass testing in order to open the economy.

Finally! Some common sense. There should be test kits outside every business. Employees should get tested every day before their shift and customers should get tested before they come in.

How long does it take to get a result from these tests?

Antibody testing, if available, good falseneg/falsepos statistics, and specific to COVID-19, without crossreactivity to other COVID infections, might be useful, otherwise whistling in the graveyard

I agree that large-scale testing of antibodies is really the only way to understand now this disease has spread. That should take place now - and also 6,12, and 18 months now.

But “reopening” doesn’t need to wait for that - and it can't. We know enough about who, and what environments, are affected by this. Remove NY City, parts of Detroit and Chicago, the elderly, the health-challenged from the statistics, and this disease nearly disappears. So create strong precautionary measures targeting those groups.

Possibly. Possibly not. But Trump's caught in the middle. Take the chance and reopen? Or continue down the painful course we're on? You're right in that better testing would reduce the risk but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Test if you like, stay at home if you are afraid, but let the healthy people get out and back to work. People are going to die everyday. The government can’t protect us from dying and getting sick. We can do our part by washing our hands etc. but the virus will be here. The flu lingers during the summer and people die from it too.
