MADISON, Wis. Governor Tony Evers is extending the “Safer at Home” order until at least May 26.

The original order was supposed to expire on Friday, April 24.

My county has 146,000 population and 35 cases. 30 of those are recovered now and 3 are in the hospital.

We are under a state “stay at home” order which is being roundly ignored here as people have had enough.

Auto traffic heavy right now. People next door drove away and returned 4 times yesterday. People walking around too. A few days ago about 1 in 3 was wearing mask. Last two days, no masks.

Evers can’t legally do this. My state senator was on talk radio this morning and said any shutdown beyond May 9 without consulting the Legislature. He said that perhaps the acting Health Secretary could, but he noted that she has not yet been confirmed by the Senate and intimated that the Senate would definitely hold the hearing to bounce her ass out.

New York, Michigan, and Wisconsin are all past their peaks and on the way down to have virtually no cases by May 1, by the IHME tracking and modeling which is as good as we have. This is the perfect time for governors to bring up opening lower risk areas and talking to legislatures about preparing for Covid-19 rebounds over the next two years. Extending shutdowns and stay at home is risking civil disobedience or massive unrest for no gain.
