'Operation Gridlock': Convoy in Michigan's capital protests stay-at-home orders
ABC News ^ | 4/15/20 | Bill Hutchinson

For three decades, Meshawn Maddock and her family have run A-1 Bail Bonds in Milford, Michigan. But just a few days ago, she said she was forced to lay off her last three employees due to courts being shuttered and jails being emptied to blunt the spread of coronavirus in the hard-hit state.

Instead of staying in her house, adhering to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's stay-at-home orders, Maddock drove 60 miles from her residence to Lansing, the state capitol, to join a convoy of motorists Wednesday afternoon protesting the governor's pandemic directive and calling on state leaders to allow small businesses to reopen so employees can get back to work.

First of many.

Americans aren’t going to stand for this nonsense much longer, the Left is going to have to come to grips with that fact.

When this is over the unlimited power of the Governors must be addressed and limited. All of this was based on what MAY happen regarding projected deaths. It was unconstitutional and the governors used it to abuse our constitutional protections.

One of the very few good things about Illinois is that we don’t have bail bondsmen.

There were many more people protesting than the people portrayed in that picture.

I agree with you. Federalism doesn’t mean that a governor has the authority to suspend Constitutional guarantees and do anything he or she wants to carry out their agenda.

Who knew we had little Stalins in waiting in the Governor’s office?

There will be arrests, but she won’t be there to help them. Probably arrests of protestors.

I just got back from Lansing and didn’t make it to the capitol area. A 1 hour drive took me 3 1/2 hours to get there. It would’ve taken me another hour or 2 to get to the capitol once I was off the freeway. There were that many cars there. People were nice to each other...honking, waving, smiling...but they are PO’d at Whitmer like I’ve never seen. Example: a pickup truck with her enlarged pic in the back window with a Hitler mustache in black marker and swastikas on each side of her head titled Gretchen Hitler. Another with her enlarged pic on the driver side door and the person gave her the middle finger, drawn on both sides of her. There are so many examples. There is no way that the media could convey the level of anger among the citizens. I was on Woodward in Detroit during the anti-war marches in the late ‘60’s. This level of anger is way, way worse.

“Addressing the protests in Lansing, Whitmer said “This kind of activity can put people at risk, and, sadly, may prolong” the situation.”

IOW, misbehave like that again, without masks and social distancing, and it’s another two weeks of lockdown for Michigan.

Understandable because her orders are arbitrary and odd.

More so, 90% of the cases are in the Detroit area.

So she says Michigan has one of the highest rates, true, but it is highly localized.

Quarantine Detroit region and open up the rest.

It’s ludicrous to treat all Michigan the same. Especially upper peninsula.

Actually the Lansing police were very polite and had a route set to direct traffic to the Capitol building.

That’s good. I have family in law enforcement and I know these nutty politicians make it very hard for them. I read that some MI sheriffs departments are going to enforce these “orders” at their discretion. Which means minimally.
