Trump Declares He Alone Has Authority To Reopen State Economies

President Trump on Monday declared that he alone has the authority to “open up the states.”

Trump said the decision will be up to him “for many good reasons” — even though state governors have issued mandatory stay-at-home orders and have specific powers to do so under the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

“For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect…” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“… It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!”

Trump did not specify what authority he would use to force states to re-open. Governors have wide powers to control their own states, and the 10th Amendment says “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Trump, AT the friday press briefing, said that it was governors that locked down their states, and governors that would have to open them up.

He also said that HE would make a decision. That decision will be to deploy a plan to the states. The governors can of course ignore it, or follow it. There are some governors now who did not lock down, even though the recommendation was for every state to lock down.

The media exists at this point to try to stir up hatred, and fear, and confusion. They are truly the enemy of the people.

False alarm today in Austin. Gov. Abbott said he’ll announce a phased-in reopening later this week.

When I saw Trump yesterday give his Easter greeting and openly state that “this is the day we celebrate that Jesus Christ was resurrected from the grave” I was reminded of this verse...”He who acknowledges me before men, him will I acknowledge before the Father!”

I think God will have his back, spanking the nation gently for Trump’s and our sakes...

Trump can use the National Defense Production Act to rule that businesses are essential to the national defense and order them to reopen.

DING! DING! DING!

WE HAVE A WINNER, NO MORE CALLS,PLEASE!!!!

>>>Dunno, but be assured, Trump will have a plan and it won’t be to the liking of these power tripping libtard state politicians

Well. He better gwt it out there quickly. Businesses and families need to prepare if it reopens on May 1. With kids out of school parents are going to have to arrange child care while they work. That doesn’t happen overnight if you have not had to do that before.

"The economic task force members look pretty good to me. No Fauci or Birx is great for starters."

I'd make one change....put the Chief of Staff in charge of the current task force, and Pence in charge of the new economic re-opening one. He has demonstrated that he can do it.

Precisely, If the rat states hold out they will whither on the vine. The DNC may tell their Governors to hold out and hope the virus cases skyrocket in the opened areas. But states cannot print money and most rat states are upside down as it is. If Trump recommends most States open up and the rats states don’t it seems unsustainable for them. Some (like mine) will try, of that I have no doubt.

....

People are furious that their lives have been turned upside down, that they’ve lost jobs and businesses due to fu*king politicians trying to virtue signal about how much they care with these totalitarian shutdowns! I hope we take the House in epic fashion! I hope the Dems lose every bastion of power they desire!

All Trump has to do is nullify the crazy Michigan governor-ess....Then other power tripping Rat governors will fall into line.

Not all Dem governors have been awful. But some have let their inner stupids and inner tyrant come out for all to see.

President Theodore Roosevelt’s famous words (although referring to (for-in pull-issy), “speak softly and carry a big stick” have been totally embraced by President Trump.

He found it necessary to invoke the “Defense Production Act”, but used it as a BIG STICK that he had just picked up to “convince” GM, Honeywell, and many others, that it would be in their best interest to “just get along”.

Opening the economy back up will be much the same. He will “convince” the governors that it would be in their best interest to just go along.

As someone else suggested, if Trump opens the economy and particular states refuse, there will be hell to pay from Trump but mostly from their own people.

There would be a REVOLT against those governors and they would see their political careers (money and power) disappear right before their eyes.

These “lockdowns” only work because most of the American people AGREE to VOLUNTARILY abide by them.

Governors, defy President Trump and the American people at your own risk. I would guess that might include “personal” risk.

the states are our primary sovereigns and they therefore needed (if there really was any actual need!) to implement the “public health” measures ....
however, the states or, yes, the federal government should lift the LockDown now that we have a very effective (and cheap and plentiful) treatment for this virus

if a state doesn’t do it, the fed govt can do it for them... under its interstate commerce power, etc.

Why is it when governors said ‘all non essential businesses close’ everyone just did it but opening back up takes bureaucrats, committees and reviews? Watch them do a permitting process.

Never give bureaucrats power over an economy. They will wreck it in their pursuit of power and control.

What can Trump do? Go to federal court and defend citizens from the widespread state government violations of constitutional rights. Send marshals and all kinds of fed agencies out.

State governments have no right to violate civil rights. This is legally exactly the same as the Fed Govt going to Mississippi when those civil rights workers were murdered and the state government was complicit. Or when Fed Gov had to enforce civil rights in Little Rock High.

They are violating a rack full of civil rights. Religion, free assembly, second amendment, restraint of interstate commerce, unlawful arrest, illegal surveillance. etc.

Trump can make life VERY hard on them. And locals will swarm to his support. He has a ton of power.

The States do not have the ability to continue “Stay at Home”

The only reason they can do it now is because the Givernmnet, Fedzilla, continues to Kite checks.

Once the Drama Dollars stop flowing the Giverners will say something smart and elquent, waive their hands and then make the case for raising taxes.

I have the power! Eh?

All levels of government, from the President down, have usurped our economy (from Greek οίκος – "household" and νέμoμαι – "manage") . Whether and how to do business is our business as individuals. To seize our initiative from the free market is to destroy it.
