It is interesting to see the breakdown in reactions between those here who have served as Naval Officers and those who may or may not have other military experience. Those of us on the first side are of the strong belief that he wasn’t relieved of command for a simple infraction of a rule, sending a message beyond the chain of command - which would normally merit a dressing down from his superior. We understand that he was relieved of command because when tested in the heat of battle he utterly failed as a commander. Following orders and doing what you are told is not what makes or breaks the Commanding Officer of a Naval Warship. Much more is expected of you than that.
