She was the wife of the local Methodist minster and an organist by trade. She was adequate to the task, but it turned out that I had more talent than I thought.

By the time I wrapped it up at age 15, my last recital included the Chopin Fantasie-Polonaise and the Fantasie-Impromptu.

Ah...those are impressive pieces of music!

I came up through the music world a little differently. I had such a mean, nasty teacher, that I quit after less than a year. Then I picked up a guitar and played that for years. I went back to keyboard when I was about 27 when the little church I went to needed an organist. I was in several bands that did my original songs which I arranged by ear. Then I got into multi-track producing and MIDI arranging on keyboard. I didn’t actually start playing piano and “the Literature” until I was a half-century old and had been “in the biz” for most of my life.
