Although I remain optimistic the innate American spirit -- which many in their panic have forgotten they possess -- will prevail -- Americans' emotional recovery from this Chinese virus may yet be further delayed as the Chinese have begun the second phase of their attack on the West. As we struggle to get up off our knees from the virus roundhouse punch to the gut and regain our composure as adults and stop scaring our kids -- ourselves, too -- out of our freaking minds, the Chinese let loose a kick to the teeth by announcing last night that a portion of their hellhole of a country that was thought to have recovered from a bout with their pet virus is now reporting a new round of infection. Right on schedule and according to plan if you ask me.

Hoping to keep the panic and hysteria going -- as well as continuing to cripple America's economy -- and magnificently effective to this point, this latest tactic (and there are undoubtedly more to come) may very well backfire on them as Americans crawl out from under their security blankets and shout out: "Enough is enough!" ... and get back to living.

Among the many people I correspond with during this lengthening period of confinement disagree with my take on this, more disagree with me (a few, vehemently so) than agree with my optimism at this point ... and I understand that -- I really do. Although not an automatic death sentence -- or even an automatic "get-sick" sentence -- if you happen to be exposed to the virus, the media, social media, politicians and even doctors (who I fully understand why from what they go through every day), people have been scared senseless over this.

But no matter how this plays out, you must realize that sooner or later "regular" people are going to have to make a decision as to how they're going to go about their lives. Are we going to stay locked away under the thumb of the tyrannical state or are we going to start behaving as courageous, responsible adults -- like all of those people who continue to leave their homes and go to work each day in grocery stores, doctors offices, driving trucks, arresting criminals, putting out fires, etc., etc., etc., taking routine precautions like avoiding people who are coughing and appear sick (as contrasted with the current "expert advice" to avoid everyone!), washing our hands while singing "Happy Birthday" (remember the "good old days" from three weeks ago?), avoid touching our face while in public (this is not "new expert advice" ... 70 years ago I learned from my mother that you shouldn't stick your fingers in your mouth or ears or -- God forbid -- pick your nose while around other people in public), and other commonsense practices that we've used during the flu and cold season for over 150 "cold and flu seasons"!

I really do hope American recover as completely as possible and that this mental as well as physical recovery occurs much sooner than the politicians and other fearmongers are predicting. This must happen before the brave souls who continue to serve our most basic needs join in on the hysteria and become as paralyzed with fear as far too many Americans have become.

This is my concern ... that China is at war with the United States and the West. So far, in America's frozen-in-place state, China is winning. But they'll lose -- and lose big -- if only we would stand up to them rather than remain paralyzed with fear and totally preoccupied with the availability of toilet paper.
