The Treasury Department said late Wednesday that Social Security recipients who typically don't file tax returns will automatically receive their coronavirus relief checks and will not have to file tax returns to receive their payments

Boxed or bottled?
My mother in law said shes going to need it to help with her promised new property taxes from Cuomo. She already pays $12,000 a year on a house she and her husband purchased for $20,000 in 1959.
Then I’m confused. A tax credit is XX dollars taken off your income tax balance owed. If the government is sending me a check, where is that coming off my taxes?
will keep your son in my daily prayers that is rough.
... SSDI ...

I have a friend who is on SSDI. She gets some of her medical paid for (she can rack up tremendous bills from one bout of stomach flu + plus she only has about 12” of small intestine and zero large intestine and needs all vitamins/meds injected). Besides the intestinal issue, she has other immune disorders. She also gets a small amount of actual money and zero other benefits. IIRC, she had to choose between medical insurance and food stamps and only gets a portion of the medical insurace covered.
Do you know if she will get a check?
BTW, to the outraged: she’s late 50s and even with all her medical problems has worked when she could. She raised 3 wonderful & accomplished now-adult kids by herself and helps out with her grandkids. She raises chickens and sells some eggs (not much net profit...the chickens are pets). She’s very upbeat and kind and compassionate and a Trump supporter. I think a couple of the kids help her out as they can.
She just got her SSI cut because she lives with her fiance. She pays rent and buys her own food, does chores, cooks and cleans and generally supports herself.
Will she get a stimulus check? She thinks not, but I think maybe.
Okay, then lets go through another 1930s.
Can’t wait for you to be in charge of that.
SS sends recipients a statement of their SS benefits and a worksheet on which they can calculate whether or not they are required to file a return.
Yes, everyone needs it more than our elderly. Good call.
Screw them old assholes anyway right?
Trot that stuff out to others. I’m not buying in.
So a form [worksheet] to see if one needs to file another form?
What a wonderfully complex system.
They might as well just file a 1040 like everybody else.
It sounds like moving out of ny might have been a better deal for you.
Mnuchin is no friend to the republican party. He’s a liberal democrat. A wolf in sheeps clothing. I cringed when Trump tapped him.
How the hell can it be stimulus when there is not a damn thing open???
Good to know. Neither state is on our list of states we would consider retiring to.
It’s a very simple form.
Nah. I live in the small city of Rome, NY. Hardly any crime...no muzzies. I’ve lived in the same two-bedroom apartment for 20 years. I’ve got a dishwasher, and central air. Water and garbage included. My gas and electric runs me about $100 a month in the winter, and about the same for A/C in the summer. My rent is $480 a month. It’s not a Section 8 apartment complex. I think my rent when I moved in was about $375, and when they raise my rent, it’s only about $5 to $10 dollars at a time.
Cuz SS is not taxable income....though some may be if youre still working.
.................................
I haven’t worked since I retired 20 years ago but have had to file every year because I have income other than S.S. income and they do tax part of my S.S. income.
I have a 22 year old dependent daughter who lives with me and she has no income. I claim her on my taxes.
My question for anybody to answer is; will she receive the $1200 as an adult, the $600 as a dependent child, or anything at all.
My wife passed away Oct.27, 2018 I will be filing 2019 tax return as head of household, a first ever for since I filed jointly with my wife and wound up owing less than $150 usually. I’m more than a little concerned that I’m going to get slammed by the IRS this time.
I don’t think you’re wrong to. It bothers me too. He still
seems to get the stuff done we want him to, but it still
troubles me.
I had that same thought.
“Why are working people getting checks?”
Many people, are contractors who receive 1099s not W2s or have a guaranteed salary. They pay income taxes on net income based on a profit and loss form. Whatever the net, they still must pay SS tax on it..15% on top of the regular taxes owed. When the economy struggles, their net income could be halved or worse
There was a time when I'd feel guilty about taking government "largess", but after 52 of my 67 years paying the taxes that go to all the dead weight, I' don't feel guilty anymore if some comes back my way.
