Why is New York’s cornavirus confirmed cases so High? They have outpaced California... Is it because they have very close knit families in New York? When one gets it they pass it around?

He’s almost 80 years old.
People have egos, and act egotistically sometimes. But I suspect that Fauci’s professional prejudices are what we’re seeing in his cautions to be careful about a drug regimen, more than his politics are.
I could be wrong. But sometimes people have conflicts of opinion among them that have little to do with politics.
He is not only a scientist but a long time federal bureaucrat who heads an agency that supports long term clinical tests. So he has a bureau to defend. He should be fired. He hs endangered lives. He is too old.
That's my thinking also. This will launch him as the "Savior" of the democratic party...saving them from Biden,

From New Rochelle to GCS is at least 40 minutes, just by itself. Some of the daily train rides are a couple of hours each way.
Given the paucity of tests so far, I don’t think we know how many infected cases there really are in the US. Many thousands of people may have this with no symptoms.

I felt that way on the day I heard him downplaying these other drugs. Gilead is spending a lot of money to get its drug out before the community figures out they don’t need the new expensive one.

I dont know the timing on this but he basically got a test and was positive. He got his Dr to prescribe taking this before any of the symptoms started
So, he might only have had a mild case to start with but we will never know.
Given that he is male, asian, and in an age range that is vulnerable I can see why he would want to start the meds
Not sure a doc would do similar for a peon in the same circumstances

Cuomo could have bodies stacked as high as the Chrysler Building if this goes badly. For him the stakes are too high to play stupid politics.
It has certainly broken free in the past week, however the figures from last Monday show that only 40% of those testing positive were “Community spread”, and IIRC only about 3% of those tested were positive. These points suggest they were doing a pretty good job at tracking to that point. Then it got loose.
It is much more efficient *early on* to test primarily around those with symptoms and who come into contact with known infected. If you can do that, you can create a sort of wall which while it won’t capture everyone, can capture infected at a rate disproportionate to the # of tests.
Once it really gets going, tracking becomes essentially pointless, and testing becomes either a forensic tool, or diagnostic-only.
Fauci loves a crisis.
