Was Richard Nixon impeached? Yes, by a 412 to 3 vote

Most people hold that since former President Richard M. Nixon resigned from office as president before the full House of Representatives could vote on the articles of impeachment, he therefore was not impeached. But they omit the House vote 12 days after he resigned.

There were two votes on impeachment by the full House of Representatives. The first, Feb. 6, 1974, was a vote 410 for and 4 against, authorizing impeachment proceedings against Nixon which allowed the House Judiciary Committee to begin the formal inquiry. Talk of such had preceded this vote for several months. Thereafter, following six months of House inquiry that did not go well for Nixon, he resigned Aug. 8, 1974, before the full House voted to actually impeach him based on the findings of their Judiciary Committee. So technically Nixon was not impeached. Although accused, which is what impeachment is, in the public mind, there was no reason to proceed as removal from office was accomplished by Nixon’s resignation.

You can’t impeach someone who doesn’t hold the office.

" The populous can be excused for their ignorance but college professors, facts-checking services, news reporters, journalists and historians cannot."

The word is "populace" but I guess one can't blame today's version of a professor from knowing that.

If I remember correctly he keep his Secret Service detail. If so the government did not consider him impeached.

Authorizing investigating whether or not to impeach is not the same as voting on articles of impeachment themselves....

This author is a moron.

Had Nixon not resigned, would he have been impeached? Probably.. would he been removed? That’s another story entirely.

It that constitutes impeachment then there is nothing to stop the GOP from impeaching Obama if they retake the House.

idiot

My first response as well; then noticed his phd and decided to look further.

It appears on December 31, 2019 he argued just the opposite in his blog:
"If House leadership chooses to discontinue the impeachment process by not passing its listed charges to the Senate—even after a positive vote on the charges was taken—it has not finished its process. Trump is, in effect, not charged..."

If words are to have meaning, then "not charged" must mean "not impeached".

Sorry, asswipes like this really burn me up. Further in the article the author writes, "So why are so many people still ignorant of the Nixon impeachment vote – even college professors?"

Do college professors have some claim to infinite wisdom and knowledge? NO, at best they may be knowledgeable in very small field of study. The vast majority of humanities professors never had courses in logic or real mathematics that require logic. These liberal vermin take watered down mathematics courses for whatever hyphenated "studies" major they are in because they can't handle the rigor of the real thing. Their most taxing math is a course in baby stats that any functioning sixth grader could pass because he can divide.

They add some letters after their name and they begin to think they are some how infallible in thoughts and beliefs. Meanwhile they lack all experience in the real world.

What I don't understand is how all of this causes the growth of a pencil neck. (Take a look at this guy's pic) or maybe it's the other way around, the pencil neck causes reduced cognition. (Perhaps due to reduced bloodflow to the brain.)

The 412-3 vote was on a resolution to accept the Judiciary Committee report and formally bring the impeachment inquiry to a close. It was NOT a vote on whether to impeach the President.

“It don’t matter anymore” (Linda Ronstadt LIVE)

Maybe it was never supposed to.

It CERTAINLY DOESN’T anymore after Trump.

During this past impeachment fiasco, with all the examining of the constitution etc., I have come to the conclusion that the framers never intended for an impeachment in the House and no conviction in the Senate to be an impeachment at all. It would be a NOTHINGBURGER or whatever the term was back then.

It’s like being “almost” pregnant.

So, bottom line is:

Nixon was not impeached

Clinton was not impeached

Trump was not impeached

Dear Dr. Pease:
Obama was still a Marxist and a fraud who enriched his cronies over industries he destroyed. Hillary Clinton still was a criminal in too many instances to name. Kerry and Biden still sold their offices in Ukraine and China for family enrichment. Democrats in DOJ/FBI and EPA ruined those agencies by criminal behavior. Susan Rice and the political appointees in intel are out right traitors. The Democrats hide from the public that Oboma sold two and a half thousand Iranians US citizenship

In light of the foregoing you spend your time writing illogical history essays. Your life sucks. You are a sycophant.

Sincerely,
KC Burke.

After Nixon released the “smoking gun” tape, his support among Senate Republicans evaporated. Barry Goldwater went to the White House to tell him in person. At most he might have still had a few votes but there was no chance he would stay in office.

The House creates essentially an Indictment, the Senate votes to impeach and that never happened

End of story
