The Berkeley-IGS poll, overseen by my former office suite-mate pollster Mark DiCamillo, is out with new numbers today showing Bernie Sanders running away with the California primary next week, where 415 delegates are at stake:
Sanders is now the choice of 34% of likely voters in the primary, twice the support of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, his nearest rival who is preferred by 17%. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg receives 12% and former South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is at 11%. Further back are former Vice President Joe Biden at 8% and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar at 6%. Another 5% of voters are supporting other candidates and 7% remain undecided.
The fractured nature of vote support for Sanders rivals has big implications with regard to how the states 415 pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention are allocated to the candidates. This is because under Californias delegate allocation rules a candidate must receive at least a 15% share of the vote statewide or within the states 53 congressional districts to be awarded delegates.
The most interesting wrinkle here is that Sanders is narrowly leading Warren right now in polls in Massachusetts, which also votes on Tuesday. It is thought that a Sanders win in Massachusetts would finish off Warren, since losing her own home state would be a large embarrassment. However, if these California poll results hold up, Warren will be the only other candidate to get any delegates out of California, which will give her a reason to stay in.
But the additional wrinkle is that because Californias results wont come in until nearly midnight on the east coast, a Sanders win in Massachusetts will have both the TV and early-deadline print media hyping the fact that Warren has been dealt a fatal blow. Fun times!

I am advocating that “Operation Chaos” have our folks start singing “The Internationale” at all Bernie events.
The crowd _will_ join in, and it will freak out Bernie!
(It could stroke him out, so maybe we wait until _after_ the convention... ;-) )
I had to go listen to The Internationale after I read your post...what an inane song. An “anthem of the left” indeed.
I listened to it in English, and couldn’t even get past a few bars. I thought maybe listening to it in Russian would improve it, but...nope. Still sounded like a stupid song.
OTOH, I have to admit, I always kind of liked the sound of the Soviet National Anthem-for some odd reason, it seemed to fit the Soviets. I was against them root and branch, but that song sounded like them!
By my math, that means Sanders would get 277 delegates and Warren would get 138. All the Mensheviks, put together, would get 0.
I hope my entire stupid state (CA) votes for St. Bernard.
How people could vote for an avowed communist is beyond me. Many people must be so uninformed about history and reality that they are purely impacted by emotion...GIBMEDATs. Pathetic.
This time will be different. You and I already know what the election results will be.
We knew a couple of days after Iowa that Bernie and Petey were in a near dead heat, within one or two tenths of a percent. The delegates were assigned, some with coin tosses.
Yesterday, I heard that a final recount of the popular vote total showed that Petey was the winner by a hair. It doesn't matter, but FOX got one of his campaign people on to state that the delay in counting broke Petey's momentum as the leader. Puh-leeze!
You and I already know what the election results will be. ........................... the states if “NYC” and CA will be a Bernie win?
Wait, didn't I hear recently that some DNC mucky-muck said that our votes don't matter in the primary and that THEY will decide who is the Presidential nominee from the DemoCommie party?
And here I wasted my vote on Tiny Tommy Pigstyer.
I think one has to make that assumption and consider it a done deal.
I listened to it in English, and couldnt even get past a few bars. I thought maybe listening to it in Russian would improve it, but...nope
Hello...Decembrists...pick up the red phone....
Obambi's best band.
I’d be shocked if Bernie wasn’t leading in Ca. Bernie is the perfect candidate for the majority of Californians. I give thanks every day for the wisdom of the founders and their inspired creation of the Electoral College.
Reds did know how to do songs. Bernie should just come out and sing this, it would be the same thing.
“Its a bit surprising Poofter Pete is that far behind Mike.”
Yes, given that it’s California I was expecting Butt-edge-edge to be in second place.
Booty-gig’s Naval Reserve duty is likely a huge negative for him among California Dems.
If Warren slips below 15%, Sanders will walk away with all 415 delegates. If that happens, he will be unstoppable.
You know, people peeing and pooping on the sidewalk used to be all fun and games, before Coronavirus.
Now it is looking downright irresponsible.
