The old people just die faster.
Some of the recent deaths in China have been 20 and 30 something medical people who were in the ICU for a month before they died.
Understood - a taxi driver in Asia that had a severe case, did not know he had severe Type 2 diabetes. Lot's of people with underlying diseases, that don't know about it, are likely to die.
And most were probably lifelong heavy smokers. I suspect there is a strong correlation of deaths with smoking. Europeans and Chinese smoke like chimneys.
Age is no factor in the death toll in as far as the disease it concerned. Most who enter a critical stage(25%) spend weeks, soon to be months, utilizing enhanced breathing apparatus.

There are plenty of young unencumbered immune systems falling prey to this horrid virus.
Why symptoms in some are lessened has more to do with the exposure than the person. I understand this particular virus has absolutely no memory of itself while great in a way ,it does leave the door open for some wild swings at evolving/mutating.
So the ‘it’s just the flu” people have begun a new mantra? “It’s just old people”?
