Report: FBI Handed Over Classified Information To Spy Christopher Steele

Inspector General Michael Horowitz discovered that FBI agents shared extensive classified materials with former British spy Christopher Steele, despite knowing the Democratic National Committee was paying Steele and that Hillary Clinton herself was aware of Steele’s research, according to a new report by Eric Felten at RealClearInvestigations.

FBI agents met with Steele in Rome just a month before the 2016 election, where they gave him a “general overview” of Crossfire Hurricane as well as details of the cases against Trump campaign staffers Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort, and Michael Flynn. In addition to the intel, Steele was compensated $15,000 by the FBI for attending the three-hour meeting.

According to Felten, the FBI agent referred to as “Handling Agent 1″ in the Horowitz report is FBI agent Michael Gaeta, who worked on cases fighting organized crime in Russia. Gaeta and Steele met working on the investigation of corruption at international soccer organization FIFA. “Between 2014 and 2016, Steele collected $95,000 from the bureau for his work on the FIFA case and reports on corruption in Russia and Ukraine,” Felten reports. Gaeta became Steele’s go-to for work and began feeding Gaeta information on Trump and Russia connections that would eventually form the “dossier.”

Felten points out that the FBI took extra measures internally to keep Crossfire Hurricane confidential. It was considered both “prohibited,” meaning it could be accessed only by agents officially working on the case, and “close-hold,” meaning information was known only by DOJ and FBI officials. Yet despite the appearance of classified intel, the FBI was eager to meet with Steele, even with the knowledge of his DNC connections.

Ah, that’s what I was waiting for.

Spying on Trump made no sense unless that info was being funneled back to Clinton.

So this is mechanism #1 for completing the info cycle.

I presume there are at least 3 or 4 additional mechanisms waiting to be discovered.

Steele was compensated $15,000

I've long considered this to be working awfully cheap, even for a spy-whore. I guess he had his head in the game, motivation, to make himself something more than just a mercenary.

So either he was a sap (he could've gotten at least $100K for the job), or a crusader, or both. I don't believe he was really as dumb as a dirt clod. It just seems that way now.

And I can never forget the pathetic J McCain carrying this crap to the FBI. Tawdry stuff by people playing desperadoes.

Because of course, you have to provide classified information to the person you’re trying to get information from. LOL

Is anybody from F Troop ever going to go to prison?

The reality is, there never was any bona fide believe that Trump is a Russian spy. This was a set up, a coup attempt and everyone of them should be still against the wall and shot dead, or face decades long terms in prison.

The FBI and CIA need to pay a brutal price for this treason. It’s doubtful if in this completely co-opted government the CIA and FBI can be broken up, but that’s what needs to happen. Oh well, Every single secret police in the history of the world eventually falls and has regular people streaming through the hallways going through their files. It will happen here to someday

And there’s no Deep State? What would you call those FBI agents who handed over info to Steele? Steele works for Fusion GPS, Fusion GPS works for Hillary Clinton.

Clearly, the democrats mishandled classified information to assist a foreign national in interfering with the 2016 American election. They then misused their offices to pretend that this was a republican scandal in order to manipulate the 2020 election - a clear abuse of power.

The agents’ names and arrest photos need to be publicized.

This was a pure black op regime change operation aimed at our own government. There was never the slightest good faith believe that Trump is a Russian spy.

There were no Russian sources, the entire thing was created by Steele , Halper, Nelly Ohr and other FBI and CIA personnel. Then it was shopped around to get it into the media universe and political universe.

If this isn’t dealt with, besides slightly critical reports, it takes us a little bit closer to where we are ultimately headed.

IG Horowitz is in the fray. He sat in on meetingsbetween DOJ, FBI and Admin back in 2016 and 2017(before Trump). He knows what is going on. He is just letting this string along as best he can. there is no need for an IG. There is much need for justice.

IG Atkinson was involved in the same material including the FISA. He then took a different seat and covers up for Schiff and the entire impeachment scandal. No wonder they won’t turn over the transcript of his testimony. No one bothers to inquire into this I wonder why. then a few years from now they “may” start looking into this matter and it will be too late.

great. when are republicans going to hold a press conference and demand an investigation you know, like democrats do for every comment from President Trump?

funny how democrats can find a scandal in ever Trump tweet but republicans can't act when they're handed evidence.

it's almost like there's a group of people working behind the scene who decide what should be investigated and what should be ignored.

May I say....
AG Barr writing a memo now saying

“This, too, is of no interest to the DOJ or myself and is of no legal consequence of any kind.

I again apologize to Mr. McCabe and others at the
FBI who were under false suspicions and had to endure public scrutiny and rumor. We are deeply sorry.”

He thought Hillary was going to win and wanted to position himself for the Hillary DOJ.

This all started in an atmosphere of hysterical Never Trumpism. Blacklists, etc. And it was bipartisan. That above all fueled Spygate I believe. The obama admin would have been somewhat more restrained if that was not the case.

Exactly. This IG stuff is beltway sewer kabuki. IG is administrative. These are criminal matters.
