This has to do with one thing. Coal electric plants are being replaced by gas electric plants. Nothing else makes a dent. The reality is that gas allows an electricity power station to be turned up and down as needed. Coal powered plants must run at full power. This is true of all other electric fuels. But gas alone allows the producer to throttle the production of electricity to the need. And because gas is often flared when it is found in conjunction with oil. The gas is not added CO2 its actually just CO2 that is used for electricity when before it was just wasted.
Also, natural gas don’t send out massive amounts of oxides of nitrogen and xulfur, particulates and heavy metals like burning coal does. That means no more “acid rain” issues downwind of the power plant.
