Virginia House passes bill to award electoral votes to whoever wins the popular vote

The Democratic-led Virginia House of Delegates has passed legislation that seeks to award the state’s electoral votes to the presidential candidate that wins the national popular vote in an election.

The measure, also known as House Bill 177, passed the legislative chamber in a 51-46 vote on Tuesday after clearing the body’s Privileges and Elections Committee in a vote last week.

If the legislation is passed by the Senate, where Democrats also hold control, and signed into law by the governor, Virginia would subsequently be entered into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

“Under the compact, Virginia agrees to award its electoral votes to the presidential ticket that receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia,” a bill summary states. “The compact goes into effect when states cumulatively possessing a majority of the electoral votes have joined the compact.”

Trump is going to win the popular vote by at least 10,000,000.

This has to be entirely unconstitutional.

You cannot just give away votes to a candidate nobody voted for

Not a state issue. That affects the national outcome. PDJT’s team should expedite this to SCOTUS.

This compact is unconstitutional. All such compacts or agreements must be approved by the US Congress, like The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was,and is.

I can certainly see the potential.

Rioting will follow. I used to live in the Richmond area, back in the 1980s. Really loved the place. Not so sure I would today.

Won’t take effect until enough states totaling 270 EV sign on to the compact.

The “Your Vote Doesn’t Count Unless California and New York Voted the Same Way” act.

This is the Tom Steyer’s crap. He’s trying to get a state constitutional amendment on the ballot here in Ohio. This gives up state sovereignty to California and New York. This is a CWII trigger.

Isn't that the same as saying "Virginia passed a bill to vote with whatever Putin says"

I can't see how this is legal

Isn’t there an open case at the USSC on this matter? I thought I heard that there was. It clearly rewrites the constitution. It is not legal.

Is this constitutional? Electoral votes are for states to decide individually.

I changed my mind and believe Trump will win the popular vote now. The dimwits are ashambles. So...what happens in Richmond when Trump wins the popular vote? You just don’t think the commies are going to give him the EVs do ya?
