Iowa Democratic Party officials are hunkered down in their war room tonight, with presidential campaigns in the dark over the delay in the reporting of caucus results.
Officials from two Democratic campaigns tell CNN they were told the app to tabulate results had crashed.

The article reports that a women who supported Warren was sad that she saw too many people move to Sanders area of the room and decided to ditch Warren and join the larger Sanders crowd... proving that VOTES SHOULD BE CAST BY SECRET BALLOT to prevent this ridiculous influence on weak voters.
How could a weak voter withstand the intimidation of all the eyes on them in the caucus room? Screw the caucus, vote only by secret ballot.

i assume their idea was to guarantee that someone at each of the 1,681 caucuses (say, maybe the prescient chairperson) would have a smart phone with the reporting app installed on it ...
I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. It's only the precinct captains who need a smartphone for reporting the results.
