I have been to that city. Yes, he achieved great things despite his personal shortcomings , trials and tribulations, and coming from a backwater city.
Amazing story.
He’s also a testament to perseverance; Rush did well as an air personality in Pittsburgh (initially), then flamed out. Took a sales job with Kansas City Royals, making less than half of what he did as a DJ. Never had any real success until he went back into radio and moved to Sacramento, replacing Morton Downey, Jr (remember him?) at KFBK. Four years later, he passed on a six-figure deal at that station, took the big gamble of going to New York and launching his national show—despite most “experts” telling him it was doomed to fail.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
