Senate Votes Down Resolution to Call Impeachment Witnesses
The Epoch Times ^ | January 31, 2020 Updated: January 31, 2020 | Jack Phillips

Senate Republicans rejected a resolution to call witnesses, including former Trump national security adviser John Bolton, on Friday evening, setting up a potential acquittal vote in the coming days.

The Senate voted 51–49 to not subpoena any documents or witnesses in the trial. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Mitt Romney (R-Utah) joined Democrats in the losing bid.

Potential swing-vote Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) voted against the measure. No Democrats joined the Republican majority.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said that there is “no need for the Senate to re-open the investigation which the House Democratic majority chose to conclude and which the Managers themselves continue to describe as ‘overwhelming’ and ‘beyond any doubt.'”

“Never in Senate history has this body paused an impeachment trial to pursue additional witnesses with unresolved questions of executive privilege that would require protracted litigation,” McConnell said in a statement. “We have no interest in establishing such a new precedent, particularly for individuals whom the House expressly chose not to pursue.”

This is good news for the ‘RAT witnesses. Now they don’t have to risk being charged with committing perjury. Bolton’s “book” sales are going to suffer though. His “bombshell book” is going to be another irrelevant ‘RAT dud.

I saw an interesting post today. There are Senate Democrats running for President. Is it fair to allow them to vote to impeach their political opponent?

I don't think so, and have been saying this since things went to the Senate.

It's a clear conflict of interest.

It frosts me that no one addressed it.

Do you realize that three less votes for the demoncRats would have put all votes out of their each, even if three or four of our folks had gone squishy?

Schumer called it a 'tragedy'. He is right. This charade was a tragedy from start to finish. Totally unnecessary, except it totally exposed the Democrats for their total distain for the Constitution.

I could ramble on, but it wouldn't be Christian.

The State of the Union Speech.

The Iowa Caucuses.

Tween’ a rock and a hard place.

Gotta feel sorry for the rats :) Doubt they’ve learned any lessons from this.

Since all democrats hate his guts I doubt it makes much difference if they are running for president.

Thank you so much for this post.

Had to be away for a family dinner tonight - missed the nieght time drama....from what I had read on other threads my fear was that this vote had not been held today.

Soooooo glad at least this vote was held and it went in favor of the President. That is a victory for the American people and for our wonderful President!

Hate that we have to wait until Wednesday for the final vote to acquit. Heavy prayer is now required, IMHO.

Is it fair to allow them to vote to impeach their political opponent?

No. It is fundamentally unfair and violates a basic rule of judication: no judge or juror should rule in a case in which he has a personal interest.

There are in fact six Democrat Senators who should be recused. Four that are actively campaigning, and two that have "suspended," but not terminated their campaigns.

People are complaining about this. We need to keep on complaining about it.

Bolton’s “book” sales are going to suffer though.

There were never going to be any book sales. Bolton gave his transcripts to a couple of CIA analysts who wrote up a concoction full of classified and top secret info.

Bolton took his bribe money to Dubai and deposited it in overseas accounts. The plan was simple. Submit the 'book' to the WH and let them reject it while claiming it contained info damaging to President Trump. The sheeple will believe it's true because surely the WH would allow the classified and secret stuff if it proved President Trump was not guilty.

‘Took his bribe to Dubai’ is misleading. The money was already there deposited into a special account. It required him to go to Dubai to sign for access to the account and decide under what ‘name’ it would be.

Is it fair to allow [the Senators running for POTUS] to vote to impeach their political opponent?

Them voting on impeachment is 1,000 times greater interference in the 2020 election than anything Trump is claimed to have done. It is preposterous that they are allowed to vote on his removal.

But the once constant and very odious thing about all Dems is hypocrisy.
