AT&T forcing thousands of American employees to train foreign replacements through H1B program
Breitbart ^ | 12/31/19 | John Binder

Posted on 12/31/2019 12:16:29 PM PST by david1292

AT&T is reportedly laying off thousands of American workers after forcing them to train their foreign replacements who have been imported through the H-1B visa program.

Every year, more than 100,000 foreign workers are brought to the U.S. on the H-1B visa and are allowed to stay for up to six years. There are about 650,000 H-1B visa foreign workers in the U.S. at any given moment. Americans are often laid off in the process and forced to train their foreign replacements, as highlighted by Breitbart News.

More than 85,000 Americans annually potentially lose their jobs to foreign labor through the H-1B visa program. Despite claims by the big business lobby, American workers who have been replaced by H-1B foreign workers say there is no shortage of talented and qualified citizens for high-paying, white-collar jobs.

In a new report by Axios, current and former AT&T employees said they are being laid off after being forced to train their H-1B foreign replacements: AT&T is poised to send thousands into the new year hunting for new jobs after assigning them to train their own foreign replacements, according to conversations with current and former workers and documents obtained by Axios. [Emphasis added]

Many have worked for the company for over a decade. They aren’t being offered severance or early retirement, and may not easily find a comparable job elsewhere with similar pay. [Emphasis added]

AT&T spokesperson Jim Kimberly told Breitbart News that employees are being helped to find other jobs inside the company.

“We are continuously working to be more efficient in our operations,” Kimberly said. “To the extent possible, we’re managing this staff adjustment through attrition and are helping employees find other positions within the company.”

Trump ignoring H1B is going to hurt him.

H1B needs MAJOR reform. Any Republican that disagrees needs to be thrown out...especially Mike Lee. I'm sick and tired of these goddamn RINOs who put corporate profits before the American citizens.

Compulsory replacement training should be illegal.

The USA needs a 20 moratorium on all immigration.

From everywhere.

My husband was forced to do this in 2008 when a very well known information retreval and law library company decided to off shore it’s IT work. Then they forced him to retire. He was 62 and had worked there for 30+ years.
This kind of thing is nothing new.

H1B is a massive tidal wave of ppl from India.

Not only the applicant but then after they pull their entire family. Glaring, unsmiling, Hindi speaking, foreigners. seeing themselves as ‘Americans’. They are not. And they better start speaking English if they ever want to be seen as even legitimate residents in any sense, otherwise, they will remain complete foreigners. This is America. NOT INDIA.

We need a revival of our sense of common purpose. The problem is deeper than the particulars here. The Left has deliberately under cut our sense of community purpose. This is a consequence of the make believe world of human interchangeability, deliberately promoted by academics & pseudo intellectuals pursuing new "world orders."

"H1B needs MAJOR reform."

Only if by "reform" you mean "radical surgery"... Complete removal of the diseased tumor...

Step #1 would have to be immediate deportation of ALL current H1B foreign de facto invaders...

The headliner sounds like slave labor.

No, that’s the way government, not free enterprise, works. Only the government forces anybody to do anything.

I had to do the very same for my employer about eleven years ago, spending eight hours a day on the phone with about ten replacements in India. In order stay with the company I had to take another job at $7,500 less per year. After all of this time, most of those off-shored jobs are coming back, but the product/service line I worked way back then is phasing out. There’ll be no way for me to get back into that.

I’m about to hit my 20th year with the company in June, and I’ll be 55 years old at that time. It’ll put me at the age/year combination of 75, where I get a guaranteed pension.

Once I hit that, I’m pretty open to looking at other employment options. My 401K is going through the roof, so hanging around isn’t too painful.

I’m not going to name the employer.

“Straight-ticket voting keeps them in office.”

I’m not sure the alternatives - voting for Democrats in November elections, or sitting out November elections, is all that much better.

I just had an excruciating go-round with an AT&T Customer “Service” Rep. Indian, no doubt. I told her the same details several times, and she did not understand.

Me: I received the label to return the equipment, but not the form.
Her: I will email a label to you.
Me: I JUST SAID I HAVE A LABEL!
Her: I can send a text for a link for your label.
Me: I already told you that I HAVE A LABEL!

And that was just ONE of the portions of the conversation. It was all like that.

Me: I’m glad we discontinued our landline a couple weeks ago. DirecTV will be next to go. Goodbye!
