Impeachment trial is the ace up President Trump’s sleeve
NY Post ^ | November 24 2019 | Michael Goodwin

Here’s my slam-dunk choice for the Quote of the Year: “I want a trial.”

The President of the United States said that Friday morning, and his title alone would be reason enough to make it the most significant thing said in 2019. But there’s much more to it because Donald Trump’s demand highlights the historically unique set of circumstances he and the nation face in 2020.

As of now, the new year will feature an impeachment trial in the Senate followed by the presidential election. If Trump survives Democrats’ effort to remove him, he would be the first impeached president to face voters again.

I am kind of wondering, if slick Willie would have been re- elected, if he been impeached in his first term? I think he would have been, but I guess we will never know for sure.

What the hell is this “IF” shit, there is no crime there is no evidence and the Senate will never vote him out of office.

Here we go again with the fantasies of the left.

That was back when Republicans operated by the ol-boy-network “it’s-his-turn” system, so they were determined, no matter what, to nominate Bob Dole - nice guy, but also the most beatable of candidates

But an earlier impeachment might have woken up the Republicans to some of Bill Clinton’s incompetence, like letting North Korea start building nuclear reactors or Pakistan getting the Bomb

Slick Willie was elected because of Ross Perot.

Surely PDJT has a nuclear bomb ready for them in the event of a Senate impeachment hearing secret ballot vote being used to remove him from office.

On election night instead of fireworks, I hope they set the huge Trump balloon free to travel the universe.

That’s why.

Yes, Slick Willie was elected because of Perot. But Perot ran because he knew only too well the truly malignant nature of Pappy Bush, who Perot could not abide as president. Perot was a misguided patriot who was, himself, a shaky figure. To our national chagrin, we all discovered what depravity Slick Willie was capable of. This benighted country has been cursed politically for generations.

I think Michael Goodwin just made the case that all of this can’t go to the Senate. (The Dems lose control of the narrative.)

Hearsay, presumption and opinions would be thrown out in trial. Plus there is no paper trail or material evidence.

It also gives the Trump side opportunity to discover details about the Biden’s and maybe the pelosis and the Romney’s and others.

Slick Willie was elected because of Ross Perot.

I'm not so sure. It could also be that he split the voters who wanted change. If true, that would have given Bush the edge.

Given what we've seen from the Bushes since President Trump was elected, I know who I blame for Clinton getting elected.

“Slick Willie was elected because of Ross Perot.”

I agree that Perot didn’t help Bush, but Slick 50 was elected because Bush Sr. thought it ‘below the office’ to fight back when attacked. In fact, the only time I saw him actually come out swinging was when he was attacked because of the fact that he hates broccoli. It actually showed that he could snap-back at the Left, but he only used that skill once in his presidency

For another, Trump’s lawyers would have wide latitude in a witness list and would use it to turn the tables on Democrats, the resistance and the Bidens. Trump likes nothing more than being on offense, and his aim would be to put his accusers on trial.

The money quote.

There is nothing like Donald J Trump on offense. He would have the latitude to call EVERYONE involved. He could control the trial until the middle of summer keeping ALL of the Senate candidates running riveted to their seats and off the campaign trail, and it would taint Biden.
Pretty much guaranteeing a weak Dim candidate, and a warchest to bury the Dims downticket. Even if Hillary! stepped up in a brokered convention, the evidence presented in the Senate would have her scurrying under her rock, never to be heard from in a serious manner again.

No, "I want a trial" is something the Dims cannot afford.

Yup. Trump is the model for future Presidents. It’s unfortunate that the model wasn’t put into service scores of years ago.
