Republicans consider moving Jim Jordan to House Intelligence Committee
CBS ^

Posted on 11/04/2019 5:21:48 PM PST by TigerClaws

As the impeachment inquiry enters its public phase, top Republicans in the House are weighing whether to temporarily assign Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the panel that will conduct the initial public hearings. Discussions about adding Jordan to the committee are "active and serious," a senior Republican involved in the process told CBS News.

Jordan, currently the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee and an outspoken defender of President Trump, has essentially led Republican efforts in the closed-door impeachment proceedings thus far, where three committees have been able to participate. His top investigator, Steve Castor, has conducted the bulk of witness questioning.

If Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy were to temporarily assign Jordan to the Intelligence Committee, he would have to make room for him by removing a current member. The move would also undermine Devin Nunes, the committee's top Republican. McCarthy has sole discretion over Intelligence Committee assignments.

Does it mean getting Nunes off the intelligence committee.

They know better than all of us what they're doing. I'll support whatever they decide.

If they are really taking this to the mat, get ready for our best wrestler.

Why can’t they have Jordan AND Nunes?

They’re both great at questioning and sorting out this mess

Well put.

This sham will completely fall apart once we get to public hearings and cross-examination. All 2nd and 3rd-hand info and a failure to understand POTUS decides foreign policy.

I’m also expecting Republicans to use this to open the door to a proper Biden investigation. Call Hunter and Joe.

Read the story carefully.

Nunes can stay — they’d just have to move another R member temporarily to another committee. Someone would have to be willing to step out of the spotlight.

Wait a minute, does this mean the Republicans are going to do something besides being roll-over bitches?

The GOPe had better bring in Mittens Romney, Paul “Lyin” Ryan, and the ghost of Juan McLame to put a stop to this.

DUMP Hurd. RINO is retiring anyway.

Nunes and Ratcliffe are my strong safety and free safety.

Jordan would become my middle linebacker.

Turner and Stefanik seem OK coming off the bench.

The rest I don’t know enough about.

What about adding Mark Meadows and Andy Biggs to the lineup? Mark at stong-side linebacker and Andy at one of the corners.

Elise Stefanik, New York
Will Hurd, Texas

Plenty of dead wood on the committee. Should be pretty easy to make room for Jordan.

No, Nunes would not be removed from the Intelligence committee, but he runs it for the GOP. The article was just noting that if Jim Jordan is put on the committee, it couold imply he is being placed above Nunes.

I don’t see any reason why Jim Jordan can’t remain subordinate to Nunez and still be effective as an interrogator. The two are not mutually exclusive. Jordan would not haave to outrank Nunez to be effective.

It was just a throw-away line in the article.

Biggs is making a case for it. The question is, would he be effective. Passion does not automatically imply skill.

“Why can’t they have Jordan AND Nunes?”

Bump.

There’s got to be another Republican committee member who is more dispensable than either of these guys.

Thanks.

I nominate Elise Stefanik to be dumped, replaced by Jim Jordan.

Nunes, Jordan, and Ratcliffe are all outstanding.

Meadows is outstanding. I don’t know very much about Biggs.
