‘OK Boomer’ Marks the End of Friendly Generational Relations
NY Slimes ^ | Oct. 29, 2019 | Taylor Lorenz

Now it’s war: Gen Z has finally snapped over climate change and financial inequality.

In a viral audio clip on TikTok, a white-haired man in a baseball cap and polo shirt declares, “The millennials and Generation Z have the Peter Pan syndrome, they don’t ever want to grow up.”

Thousands of teens have responded through remixed reaction videos and art projects with a simple phrase: “ok boomer.”

“Ok boomer” has become Generation Z’s endlessly repeated retort to the problem of older people who just don’t get it, a rallying cry for millions of fed up kids. Teenagers use it to reply to cringey YouTube videos, Donald Trump tweets, and basically any person over 30 who says something condescending about young people — and the issues that matter to them.

Teenagers have scrawled the message in their notebooks and carved it into at least one pumpkin. For senior picture day at one Virginia high school, a group of nine students used duct tape to plaster “ok boomer” across their chests.

...

And so Ms. Kasman and other teenagers selling merch say that monetizing the boomer backlash is their own little form of protest against a system they feel is rigged. “The reason we make the ‘ok boomer’ merch is because there’s not a lot that I can personally do to reduce the price of college, for example, which was much cheaper for older generations who then made it more expensive,” Ms. Kasman said. “There’s not much I can personally do to restore the environment, which was harmed due to corporate greed of older generations. There’s not much I can personally do to undo political corruption, or fix Congress so it’s not mostly old white men boomers who don’t represent the majority of generations.”

It’s all a scam but they’re not educated enough to know it.

Of course it is a scam. Of course we know about it. We know this is not going to work out well. BUT..... where are the parents in this? Oh wait, I can answer this, there are no parents, only a Mom.

The children of couples who have stayed together through thick and thin, good and bad, rich and poor, tend to have stable and independent kids. Those with one parent, well, school is daycare paid for by the state. Remember the PTA, where the parents and teachers worked together... Well, no more, not enough parents, and besides, the teachers don't even want to interact with parents. So annoying, having to answer questions about the well being of their children Lay the blame where it belongs, to the people who made the poop, not the poop itself. That would be the parent. OMG, I said it, the world will end.

But probably not, it is going to be rude shock for the millenials, and quite a social adjustment, but I am confident that out fellow Americans will step up when the time comes... They have no alternative, no money to buy ticket to Venezuela, ha ha. It will be fun to watch, but in the end, our kind totally outnumbers their kind. And then the millenials will bloom, they will not always be poop, even though right now their reason for living seems to be serving as fertilizer for several coming generations.

Thanks to Democrat education, Gen Z and Millennials have the benefit of an uncluttered mind.

My daughter calls me boomer all the time.

So I started calling her tumor.

No, it primarily isn’t the professors—since most classes now are taught by adjuncts paid peanuts. Sure, there are those at the top, such as Elizabeth Warren at Harvard Law, paid handsomely—but mostly the money has NOT gone into those actually teaching the students. It is a massive build up of bureaucracy (nd a crazy building boom) that has mostly syphoned the extra money.

All good points, but I think you overestimate the influence of Baby Boomers in the nation's political and cultural landscape 45+ years ago.

The oldest Baby Boomers would have been about 27 years old in 1973 when the Roe v. Wade decision was handed down. By that time some states already had loosened their abortion restrictions.

Most of the political and cultural rot you describe can be directly attributed to the "Greatest Generation" -- a misnomer if there ever was one. That "greatest generation" turned this country into a big-government, globalist behemoth that our Founders never would have recognized.

“As a repentant Boomer...”

Or, more accurately, as a weasel Boomer.

The Boomer generation did not bring about abortion, it was nine much older men.

The Boomer generation did not create the pill.

The vast majority of Boomers were a bit too young to be concerned about abortion in 1973.

The Boomer generation is certainly much worse than the preceding generation, but all the succeeding generations are worse — due to a plan of national sabotage mapped out by the Left in the 30s — the Frankfurt School initiative.

A silly little social media fad that will quickly fade away when the next one hits.

On a side note, I get a kick at the derision heaped upon Boomers by younger generations, simply for being old. I mean the irony is priceless.

They are not giving up the arrogance, immaturity, leftism, or anything else. Everything is someone else’s fault. It does not bode well for the future.

I’m a late year Boomer and I watched the first wave Boomers do the same thing you describe.. Think Hillary Clinton.

I am a proud boomer. I blame nothing on my Greatest Generation parents. Rather, I attribute every success I ever had and all the positive qualities in me to them and the way I was raised.

And the punchline for this obscene joke? They're going to get their wish. When the older generation is gone, nothing will stand between these effeminate cupcakes and outer darkness.

I don't like "apocalyptic" stories ("Book Of Eli", anyone?) But the whiners in the OP are likely to seem some version of it.

or fix Congress so it’s not mostly old white men boomers who don’t represent the majority of generations.

Uuuhhm, what are these dopes smoking? They can’t even get their talking points right. America has been a white majority nation since it’s been America and still exists as such to this very day.

You just described my 16 year old grandson perfectly. I am so upset this morning because of his rude behavior toward me this weekend. His father made him put down his video games to help pick up some furniture I had purchased. Oh my goodness you would have thought we asked for one of his kidneys. The thought of helping some one else is completely foreign to him.

It all seem to begin about the same time grunts didn’t have to spit shine their boots, nor polish their brass daily.

Your generation has a point.

If your generation looks at the boomers as a generation that created a financial world that is so far from sustainable that your generation will be the first in American history to do far less as well as theirs did, then it is completely accurate.

I think the Boomers are lucky to be referred to as Boomers. What other species comes in and consumes everything and then berates their children and grandchildren for not giving them yet more?

Locusts.
