The DH is one of the primary causes of the parade of pitchers that infects every game and increases the amount of dead time. It’s also tended to generate more one-dimensional hitters.

All for about half a run per team per game.

Tijuana has a team: the San Diego Padres. Tijuana is essentially a large, poor, Spanish-speaking suburb of San Diego, with an international boundary separating them — kind of like Detroit and Windsor. For a number of years, Padres games were on XTRA radio, which is technically from Tijuana.

(Yet somehow, the Expos weren’t allowed to broadcast their games on a Plattsburgh, NY station.)

Wolfman Jack was on XTRA. I listened to him early one morning sitting a mile or so off the coast just about at the DMZ. The atmospherics were perfect.

In general, starters do take longer to warm up, and I think some of them don’t warm up enough. Note how many hve problems in the first inning.

Cole was in the bullpen. But by the seventh, he was back in the dugout. I think the plan was to use him if they needed him early, but to let the bullpen handle it if it was late in the game.

However, as I have said on a couple of posts, picking the burned-out Harris (12 postseason appearances) was a bad choice by Hinch.
