Chuckie Schumer proposes 'cash for clunkers' all over again: 10 Year Plan to move away from gasoline

Remember "cash for clunkers"?  It's baaack.

Sen. Chuck Schumer has a new proposal to have everyone turn in their cars and get in return a supposedly clean, green, nifty, electric vehicle

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senator Chuck Schumer, the top Senate Democrat, late on Thursday proposed a $454 billion plan over 10 years to help shift the United States away from gasoline-powered vehicles by offering cash vouchers to help Americans buy cleaner vehicles.

Schumer said in a statement that his plan, which would provide rebates of $3,000 or more to individual buyers, would help transition 25% of the U.S. fleet, or 63 million vehicles, away from traditional internal combustion-engine vehicles within 10 years.

The plan would be key to reducing the impact of climate change, Schumer said, noting that the transportation sector accounts for nearly one-third of U.S. carbon output.

Now, pay no attention to the hard reality that electric cars run on electricity, and electricity requires coal to create. His proposal amounts to either a massive subsidy to the coal industry -- or else fuel shortages, the signature shortages of socialism in a "planned" economy. And never mind that the composition of electric vehicles is far from carbon neutral, it's farther, in fact, than gas-fueled vehicles.

But never mind indeed, it's full speed ahead on a cash for clunkers program all over again, this time with a $454 billion price tag, in the name of going green.

Air pollution from emissions of modern vehicles are relatively low. Let the manufacturers develop a better product and keep the govt the hell out of it with subsidies.

The environmental damage of all those batteries would be apocalyptic. Plus it can’t be done.

Last time they tried this, the “incentive” was considered “income” and they got a surprise tax at the end of the year.

Hydrogen power?

That has been 5-10 years away for about 40 years.
We had a guy that lived in our town in the late 70’s that kept telling everyone the same thing.

Oil is a gift to man. Our whole world revolves around it.
It’s obviously not from fossils. Seems somewhat clear that the earth is producing oil.
Enjoy.

Everything has an energy signature... It's not just the obvious - like a lawnmower or car. Chuck Schumer should be smart enough to know ...

A pair of Nike Air Jordan's has an energy signature - a gold pair of earrings, a trip to Paris... because a person can't see fossil being burned doesn't mean it's not happening. Running a factory, transporting merchandise, or paying employees who will then buy things manufactured and transported by fossil fuels is just as real 'a use' as a car driving down a street.

This newest 'cash for clunkers' plan is based on people being stupid - your energy 'signature' is closely correlated with how much money you spend every year. Period. Which puts the worst abusers on record living in and around Washington DC.

It is very important to drive up the price of used cars so that poor and middle class citizens cannot drive. They are just clogging up the highways and should be riding in buses anyway.

With that initiative, the freeways clear up so that our rulers can get around quickly in their electric cars and do the important business of governing us.

***which would provide rebates of $3,000 or more to individual buyers, ****

How about just giving me the $3,000 dollars in cash for each of the junkers I have on my place! I don’t need or want a new car.

I’ll turn in my gasoline-powered car to the government for an electric vehicle the day after I turn in my legally acquired firearms for cash from the government — which is NEVER !!

No. Not happening Schmucky.

Why does the article have to tell us Schmucky is the “top Democrat?” How does it matter?

After the first “Cash for Clunkers” program in 2009, it was difficult to find a decent, low-cost, low-mileage used vehicle. It was a disaster for used car dealers.

WHO is his “brain trust” (like FDR, another New Yorker)? Schumer is NOT this smart to think of these things himself ...

Of course the entire premise that this would be good for the environment is a scientifically provable hoax. Talk about a chemical catastrophe.

The last CFC was a disaster. Many good used cars were destroyed intentionally. That left a shortage of used cars, making them unavailable for people who could not afford a new one.
