US delinquent on payments as UN faces 'worst cash crisis' in a decade

The Trump administration owes the United Nations about $1 billion in payments at a time when the multilateral organization said it is facing its "worst cash crisis" in a decade, USA Today reports.

The U.S. owes $381 million in back payments and $674 million for 2019. Of the $1.3 billion owed to the U.N. by member states, the U.S. is responsible for more than $1 billion.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent a letter to member states on Tuesday calling the current situation the "worst cash crisis facing the United Nations in nearly a decade."

Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for Guterres, said the U.N. "runs the risk of depleting its liquidity reserves by the end of the month and defaulting on payments to staff and vendors."

"The Secretariat could face a default on salaries and payments for goods and services by the end of November unless more member states pay their budget dues in full," Dujarric said in a statement.

Hold on to the purse strings, Mr. President.
Monies given to the UN are no different than paying extortion demands - and yet the US STILL must endure the frequent attacks in the gang’s attempting to close our doors.

The times, thy are a’changing.
SHUT THEM DOWN!

As I posted on another thread. We may be delinquent on discretionary contributions for discretionary projects. The discretionary project is for Palestine refugee program started in 1948

If the UN shut down, would anyone notice?

What have they ever done to justify their existence?

I believe the Rockefeller family bought and donated the site for the UN, but I might be wrong.

Our dues payments are defectively calculated. We are probably only about 14% of the world economy.

The only reason to pay would be the Security Council veto right. I’m sure the UK can use $1 million.

Are we a part of the OIC that we HAVE to fund them? Their objectives are 100% antithetical to America’s.

Well it does say that of the 1.3 billion owed the U.N., the U.S. owes more than a billion, 1.055 (1 billion 55 million) to be exact. So if the amount owed is actually 1.3 billion, that means the rest of the nations, who haven't paid their full amount, owe 245 million.

However, in 2017 the U.S. paid 10 billion on an assessed amount due of 3.5 billion. So we paid 7 billion more than we needed to.

Link to amount paid in 2017 source

The United States remains the largest donor to the United Nations, contributing more than $10 billion in 2017, roughly one fifth of the body’s collective budget. President Donald J. Trump, however, has raised questions about how much the United States will continue to contribute.

Shut it down. Turn it into something useful, such as a homeless shelter.

This is something that I have never understood. How is it that the USA owes the UN anything at all? I remember Bill Clinton saying that we owe the UN back dues.

It made no sense to me then, and it makes no sense now.

The UN is made up of primarily communist and socialist countries who have done nothing for the citizens of the USA.
