This weekend is dedicated to a song that has been recorded vocally many times and has become a jazz standard. Richard Rodgers was one of the few composers to write in waltz time when the dance form had become a relic of the past. Deanna Durbin had a brief singing career in the movies in the late Thirties and early Forties. In this clip she does a sendup of Jeanette MacDonald, who sang it in the 1932 film, by harmonizing with herself. Note her operatic style.
