Trump Hits Back At Lindsey Graham: If You Think It Was Weak Not To Bomb Iran, Remind Yourself How Iraq Turned Out

My favorite thing about Trump is how little he gives Graham on foreign policy despite Graham kissing his ass relentlessly in hopes of turning him into a hawk. It’s commendable on the merits, in that Trump’s reluctance to wage war is a welcome corrective to the McCain/Graham-style of hyperinterventionism that ruled the GOP for years. But it’s also gratifying on a gut level, even as a Trump skeptic. “One of Trump’s more likable qualities is his penchant for publicly humiliating all the lickspittle Republicans who try and ride his coattails,” writes C.J. Ciaramella of Reason, remembering how Chris Christie was treated during the 2016 campaign. It’s true! What could be more enjoyable than watching Graham toady to the president day and night after dismissing him as a “kook” and a national security threat in 2016, believing that it will buy him influence over foreign policy, and as his reward having him endure daily reminders that Trump is far more inclined towards Rand Paul’s fopo views than Lindsey’s?

Let the ones who need the oil do the heavy lifting. We have done enough with money, resources and body bags of our heroes. Enough! Unless we are attacked...than we have to act.

Few people have been as wrong on foreign policy over the last few years as the neocons and @Liz_Cheney. The Twitter exchange represents a real and significant debate on the future of our foreign policy between realists like myself and #NeverTrumper neoconservatives like Cheney.— Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) September 13, 2019

I think you understand Trump as well as anyone here. I agree with everything you said.

It’s becoming obvious that this attack is just the beginning of a concerted effort to destabilize the world economy and influence our election. We’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t act. I wouldn’t doubt if Valerie Jarret and company aren’t in on this. Just my paranoid opinion.

“If the Mullahs try something else and it makes oil go to $100 a barrel”

If US goes to war in Iran, George Bush-style, watch the price of oil spurt then

Trump is emulating Reagan instead of Bush. Reagan stayed clear of Middle East wars, wmeven after our marines were killed by terrorists. The neocons denounced him for “showing weakness”. They were more successful with George Bush - he took the kind of advice you’re giving. It destroyed his presidency and elected Barack Obama

Of course he was. FReepers drooled over Graham though during the Kavanaugh saga last year, like he suddenly changed in a phone booth and became this gun-slinging conservative.

No one is talking about an invasion. Not even Little Linda Grahamnesty.

What is being worked on is what level of retaliation is to be executed. Graham and Bolton and other war hawks wanted President Trump to aggressively attack Iran after the drone downing.

President Trump said no. I’m not going to kill hundreds of Iranians over a single piece of hardware. The war hawks say see we told you so!

What the hawks do not realize is, President Trumps unwillingness to attack Iran with prejudice over a single drone strengthens his hand in punishing them later when they go way over the line.

The attack in Saudi Arabia is different. This was an Iranian shot across the bow which has worldwide economic implications.

Yes, thanks to President Trump we are energy independent but, oil is a worldwide commodity. If Iran is allowed to attack, destroy, and pirate tankers at will this affects every country, every industry, every household, worldwide.
This cannot be allowed to stand.

This attack demands a strong and intimidating response.
And, a response will come. Just a matter of when. Not if.

Every time President Trump is getting close to reaching his goal to negotiate and end our warmongering, the “evil dictators” do something to mess it up

Yes, I was noting the same coincidences. After he tweeted that we’re getting out of Syria, there was a big terrorist attacked. Likewise after he scheduled talks for withdrawing from Afghanistan. Now, after he fires Bolton, partly for opposing attempts to strike a deal with Iran, we get this act of war by “Iran”.

“Sanctions alone will not make them stop.”

Sanctions are killing them. That’s why they are lashing out.

But if there is going to war, Iran will keep on keeping on, forcing one.

Let them.

Our strategic interests in the Gulf are rapidly diminishing, and our wisdom increases by the day.

We can wait. See if there’s anyone else willing to take some of this burden.

Wait. Position forces and supplies.

And the next time, which is surely coming, hammer them in accordance with their worst nightmare.

I'm totally OK with Graham disagreeing with Trump on certain foreign policy decisions, just like I was OK with Bolton's countervailing opinions.

Trump should listen to all advisers who have America's interests at heart, and internalize their input before making his decisions. I think he's done that admirably to this point.

Disagreement is absolutely fine.

Actually, the IRI was afraid of Bush. They thought he would attack Iran after Iraq & disposing of Saddam. And that would have been the perfect time to do it. Unfortunately, he started listening to the wrong people around him & eased up. Then the IRI started their offensive, arming & training the Iraqis, teaching them to build IED’s, wounding & killing our soldiers and generally causing chaos in Iraq.

Yeah, because war wouldn’t disrupt Saudi/Iranianoil supply or global economy.

“This was an Iranian shot across the bow which has worldwide economic implications.”

Not buying the “worldwide implications” fearmongering. The price of oil went back down today. Watch it skyrocket if we do the Saudis bidding and go to war

I just wish Lindsey would get busy with issuing subpoenas as Judiciary Committee Chairman to get to the bottom of the Deep State coup and leave foreign policy decisions to PDJT!!!

I received this tonight from a fellow I know well and it certainly has a bearing on any decisions involving Iran... http://godreports.com/2019/09/fastest-growing-church-has-no-buildings-no-central-leadership-and-is-mostly-led-by-women/?fbclid=IwAR1WKu

Here is the first line of the article... “For the last few years, researchers have credited the underground church in Iran as the fastest growing Christian church in the world.”

I wonder how much of this is true and how well do we really know the people in Iran? One has to think that this is a place that will eventually implode all on its own (in fact quickly with God’s help)....
