'There is nothing here': The future is uncertain for 70,000 in the Bahamas left homeless by Dorian
CNN ^ | 9/8/19 | Ray Sanchez

(CNN)As the Grand Celebration cruise ship sailed away from the Bahamas on a humanitarian mission carrying nearly 1,500 hurricane evacuees, Ceva Seymour looked back at the hundreds of desperate Bahamians left behind at Freeport Harbour.

"It was difficult for me to see that other people couldn't get on the ship who probably needed to be there more than me," Seymour, 56, said after arriving in Florida with more than a dozen of her cousins and grandchildren.

Seymour, her relatives and all those who stayed behind are among the 70,000 people thrust into homelessness on Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands by the strongest hurricane ever to hit the archipelago nation of about 390,000 residents.

Very few get that tourist “loot”. It’s highly concentrated, I presume jealously guarded by those in on the action.

Aid should largely be in the form of free travel to England. The islands are supposedly the Queen’s, carrying capacity of the land is exceeded, best is that the poor get out of an area they can’t function in for want of space & resources.

(I likewise think US “overpopulated” areas should be addressed with a free one-way trip to BLM land and an option to buy square feet thereof outright.)

The Clinton Foundation ought to get involved in rebuilding the Bahamas. They have the experience--they did such a good job in Haiti. In a year things will be better than before the hurricane.

As soon as they set foot in the U.S. they’re never going back. They’ll get on welfare and Medicaid & sit right on the couch in their free apartment. After a few years they’ll be proud card carrying members of the Florida Democratic party voting early and often.

The Bahamas might be a playground for the rich and famous but they’re rich and famous expats, not bahamians. The fancy resorts are owned by foreigners, not locals, and all the money goes to them. The locals are dirt poor, probably no insurance and no money to rebuild. They don’t, and never have, seen it as paradise like the foreigners who yacht and snorkel their way around the islands. Once they get in the U.S. and on the dole you won’t be able to pry them out of the U.S. and back to the Bahamas.

My second thought was that those who weren’t dead will come to the US and immediately be granted welfare for life.

Yup. Just for starters: "Seymour, 56, said after arriving in Florida with more than a dozen of her cousins and grandchildren."

They hit the USA Lotto.

If only a powerful, world renowned property developer was available to help make turn this mess around as best as possible.

Of course I mean Trump and I’m certain the left is plotting to not let him derive one bit of good will from this situation even if it means every former Bahamas resident dies.

They are a member of the British Commonwealth.

Apparently all that membership entitles them to is a message of condolences from the queen.

Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott have asked the Trump administration to waive visa requirements for displaced Bahamian citizens with close relatives in the US.

Nope. Just no. Most of the Bahamas is not in ruins. They can find refuge in their own country. The days of everybody just come to America must end.

“SO, the US must have done something to divert it.”

You can almost hear it, “Trump did SOMETHING over Florida to keep it over the Bahamas to wipe out the minorities so he can buy the islands cheap and build his hotels and casinos!”

The world sees the USA as Uncle Sugar. After stealing from us...they despise us. The he** with them. Build the wall...including a financial one. The wealthy in those countries need to dtep up...or experience a revolution.
