Boris Johnson gives up attempts to block Brexit delay bill

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday abandoned his efforts to block a law in the upper house of Parliament that would prevent the country from withdrawing from the European Union without a deal in place.

Members of Johnson’s Conservative Party in the House of Lords had initially prepared a slate of amendments to the legislation, which passed the House of Commons Wednesday, in the hopes of delaying a vote on it until Monday, when Parliament will be suspended. However, the party announced early Thursday that it was dropping its opposition, according to Reuters.

Richard Newby, an opposition member in the upper chamber, said the Conservative Party dropped its opposition after realizing it was “looking stupid.”

“There was a realization by those on the other side that this was more than usually stupid, and they were looking stupid, and we needed to find a way forward,” he told BBC Radio.

A general election must be held and then the bill can be repealed by the new government.

He’s been thwarted by his own party at every step so I guess he’s taken the hint.

Remain is winning, just like the swamp here.

It’s amazing how many elected officials from around the world seem focused on working against the interests of their home country.

Very simple. Just refuse to present the bill to HM Queen Elizabeth II. No royal assent, no law.

If Parliament doesn’t like it, they can hold a vote of no confidence followed by a general election.

The “swamp” is not something just here in the US....it is worldwide and it is the support for global socialism...one world rule.

Brexit would set back efforts to create a global government.

The EU is just a stepping stone along the way

Boris Johnson was handed a ticking bomb and fumbled the job.

His great mistake was in not finding a way to provide his own members with cover so that they could manage a clean Brexit. Instead he was forced to expel 26 and lost one as well in a debacle.

Boris Johnson has the right objective but he has got to manage better.

This ought to send a strong signal to the citizens of the UK that their elected officials have no interest in allowing for the wishes of the voters to be recognized.

It will be up to the voters to either accept this slap in the face or throw the current government out.

Face it. Britain no longer exists as most Americans once knew it or imagined it. Thanks to massive immigration it has forsworn its national heritage. It is now just another globalist province. When Boris Johnson looked around, he came to the realization that the Britain he once knew and loved no longer exists. Unless the open borders Democrats are destroyed, America is next.

I think your idea is already scripted out and the more likely scenario. Queen Elizabeth might ring up Johnson on when he’s coming by to present the bill....with him responding he’s having ice cream and cake. She’ll laugh, and that’ll be the end of this drama.

It’s as Macron said (I paraphrase): “to a globalist, nationalism is treason.”

Everyone is missing the point.

The date set for the U.K. to leave the EU is not set or able to be changed by anything the current Parliament does. If they create a “deal” that is acceptable to the EU or not the deadline is October 31, 2019. The EU has said, many times, that another extension will not be forthcoming.

Quite true.

Which explains the non stop daily beating on POTUS Trump.

He is like a lightning rod against these same globalist bastards.

How would you define "clean" here?

I think you could define it as either Brexit with a land border built through Ireland with hard stop checkpoints staffed by men with guns. Or, a Brexit where Ireland is left with no border and North Ireland is left outside the UK.

That’s the thing. Boris doesn’t have to get anything passed by Parliament. They already triggered article 50. They want to keep him in office but not in power. They do not want a general election because Boris and Nigel Farage would slaughter them. So they pass this bill to try to tie Boris’ hands.

But he doesn’t have to present the bill to the Queen. If it doesn’t get royal assent it doesn’t become law. To any howls of protest, Boris can just say “fine.....hold a vote of no confidence if you don’t approve”. That will of course result in the general election they do not want. Or, they can just accept it in which case the clock runs out on the extension and the U.K. is out of the EU with no deal.

It’s not Boris who’s trapped - despite what the Establishment media is trying to claim - it’s the ReMoaners who are trapped. It is they who must get something passed and can’t.
