Bill Kristol is the personification of the Washington Elite. The elite at the top may be Republican or Democrat but they are elite first and have no real inner standards except power for the elite. They will defend each other even though the other is of the opposite party as they are the true party of the elite.
They hate Trump as he is not the elite but of the American people which the elite not only despise but hold in contempt.

Trump was the first major GOP candidate to break the Republican taboo about speaking publicly against the Iraq War. Kristol is a war monger who was one of the Iraq wars major advocates. He wants the GOP to stay in lockstep behind the neocon warmongering foreign policy. Trump threatened Kristol hold on the GOP’s mind and policy, turning the party away from supporting perpetual war. Tucker documents it. He shows that Kristol wasn’t objecting to Trump - until the South Carolina primary debate, when Trump denounced the Iraq War. That transformed Kristol into a raving nevertrumper, and he’s only become more fevered as the years have gone on
