Analysis: Dem Candidates Call For More Than $200 Trillion in Spending

Democratic candidates for the 2020 nomination have promised more than $210 trillion in new spending across the field, analysis by the Washington Free Beacon shows.

Of the 26 declared candidates—including Rep. Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.) who dropped out earlier this month—most have put enormous new government programs front and center in their campaigns. Totaling up these proposals gives taxpaying voters a sense of the budget priorities of the average Democratic candidate.

That overall figure is an undercount, as it is based only on proposals for which the Free Beacon could identify actual spending estimates. The true figure is much larger. For example, Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I., Vt.) Medicare for All proposal is included, while Sen. Kamala Harris's (D., Calif.) is not, because no cost assessment for the latter could be identified.

Candidates will continue to roll out proposals in the months ahead, although the field is likely to winnow in that time as well. Of the $210 trillion, the plurality—$94 trillion—is the estimated cost of a Green New Deal, which a number of candidates have backed in some form or another. The remaining $116 trillion—roughly six times the United States's annual Gross Domestic Product—is spread across a variety of policy proposals, from Andrew Yang's Universal Basic Income to Marianne Williamson's call for $200 to $500 billion in reparations for slavery.

If any one of these candidates were elected, say goodbye to our economy and way of life as we know it.

They'd have to pass legislation for just about all of it, so there's no guarantees. You can bet though that if they had the White House AND Congress, they would all get on board. It seems like that's just a matter of time--maybe not in 2020, but after 2024, no one can say.

They certainly won't walk on egg shells passing new legislation. If they get the White House and Congress, they'll read it as a mandate, and they'll pass new laws so fast, the Supreme Court won't have time to review them all.

And about that pesky, conservative-leaning Court...don't think the Dems won't stack it at some point, if necessary. They'll raise the number to 17 justices, and nominate another eight, 30 year-old, liberal lawyers who will vote things their way.

These and the other 509 should be in federal prison for life at a minimum.

List of grievances. 1) 22 trillion debt.

Well they’re not because we’re gonna go all out to get Trump reelected and I think he will win in a HUGE way.

Maybe 340 electoral votes.

And God forbid the insane happened, you have VERY little faith in the republic.

That’s why there’s a house and a senate and a SCOTUS.

If the Dems confiscated 100% of the wealth of the 100 richest Americans, they would get about $1.072 Trillion.

Then, what would they do to pay for all of their FREE for the next year? and the next? and next?
