Fact-check sites offering speculation - good for a laugh.

Most attorneys I’ve heard or read of, especially ones in politics, make sure to retain their licenses since they can fall back on attorney-client privilege if and when they need it.

G. Gordon Liddy, whatever you think of him, used to do this as a matter of course. ‘Give me a quarter - now you’re my attorney’ etc.

Exactly. It was a long-term strategic blunder to not pay the few hundred dollars to maintain their law licenses. Even Bill Clinton kept his law license until the courts took it away for ten years.

Forget Liddy, what about Robert Kardashian? He was a simple family law attorney, but he's the guy OJ gave his bloody clothes to, to get rid of. Kardashian was added to the so-called "Dream Team" in order to invoke attorney-client privilege, and that's what ultimately protected Simpson.

That's the kind of stuff the Obamas gave up when they let their law licenses lapse.
