Like many others, I have for some time been trying to understand Trump Derangement Syndrome, the phenomenon of otherwise reasonable people reacting irrationally to some peculiar quality of the president, a quality especially in evidence when he is in the presence of his supporters.
Some of it is easy enough to comprehend. Unlike any president since at least Jackson, Mr. Trump was elected by attacking the entire political class from right to left and practically all leaders of both parties and the parties themselves. He managed to stir up enough discontent to win the nomination of one of the parties and then got just enough votes in the right places to win the election.
Since Mr. Trump had opposed everyone in both parties, they all opposed him, and the Republicans, almost as much as the Democrats, wanted to get rid of him. If there had been any truth at all to the gigantic fatuity about Trump-campaign collusion with Russia, there would have been bipartisan enthusiasm and relief in throwing him out of the White House like a large dead mouse.
Mr. Trump was not only the first president who had never sought or held a public office, elected or unelected, or a military position. He also had no knowledge of the official procedures and attitudes in the upper approaches to the presidency. As he had changed parties seven times in 13 years looking for his chance to try the novel theory of turning celebrity, and often rather crass celebrity, into electability, and had countered press skepticism with social-media direct contact with the people, supplemented by support on the talk-radio circuit, which generally enlists the attention of a lower-middle- and working-class demographic, he had no cadre of political loyalists to assist him.

Mr. Trump is truly a man of his time. I don’t expect to ever see anyone his equal after he’s done. One of a kind. Even though we may get another conservative in the top office, his style would be very difficult if not impossible to repeat in full.
Any subsequent GOP will need to develop their own style and manner of dealing with the Dems, the Media, the Swamp, the #NeverTrump traitors and world leaders in general.
Because they hate us. I heard the same junk about Nixon, Reagan, Shrub Bush, and President Donald J. Trump. If not for a few great leaders and the 2nd Amendment, we would go the way of North Korea and Cuber.

Agreed. We are blessed by the Lord to have him here at the right time, place and with the right skills. Truly a historic event.
It reminds me of their personal hatred for Nixon, who was probably the most liberal Republican ever elected.
Politically, I view Trump as a center-right Democrat, but the Democrats and the RINOs still hate his guts.
Oh, they were the same way about GW Bush. They just cannot STAND to have a president who isn’t a Democrat, simple as that.
It was a strategy...pull Trump to the right so he can’t work with Dems and couldn’t occupy any of their support. If Trump got everything he ran on done they’d really be in trouble. He took away so many of their issues (not necessarily their solutions). But for the hatred ginned up he would have United 60-70 percent of the country and the Repukes and the Demothugs couldn’t have that.
They hate him because he is undoing decades of creeping government overreach and reversing the DemocRats’ open borders policies and exposing how corrupt the swamp really is.
Don’t forget there was also Bush derangement Syndrome or BDS. This is way worse of course .
Why? Because Trump fights backs and they’re not used to opposition to their America hating ideas.
First error here is saying they are “otherwise reasonable people”. No, they are not.
What Conrad misses in his essay is the psychotic Bush Derangement Syndrome that libtards suffered under the reign of George w. Bush. That is where the term started! Who remembers the white flecks of spit coming from Keith Olbermann’s mouth on a nightly basis, he should have been in a strait jacket. All the media monkeys were screeching and throwing their feces every night. They hated Bush, with a seething, acidic hatred.
They made a movie on assassinating Bush. There was a fever to get him at all costs. Of course he was a racist as well but that should go without saying, he was Republican. ‘

It all means that no matter who the President is, if he happens to be Republican and lean to the Right, he will receive his own deranged form of hatred. (Frankly center Dems are facing it like Nancy Pelosi.)
The difference with Trump, is he hands the spit right back, and puts it in their face. The man fights on their level. He is effective and beating them at their own game. He also threatens their domination over minority voters. Trump is a massive threat.
And, because of that lack (in the Washington RINO GROPElites at least),the 2024 and 2028 elections are far more troubling than the 2020 Trump campaign against 22 idiotic incompetents.
Black nailed it. No one really knew much about Trump’s policies before the elecgtion, except he was against crooked Hillary and the elites of both political parties.
