Churches jump into action with threat of immigration sweeps

CHICAGO (AP) — Religious leaders across the country used their pulpits Sunday to quell concerns in immigrant communities and spring into action as nationwide immigration enforcement sweeps loomed.

I didn’t hear anything about immigration in church this morning. I heard a lot about “what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” But not a word about migrants, Border Patrol or the round-up of criminal aliens.

I expect you attend an actual Christian church and not a PC fake version, right?

In my town, the actual Christian churches are building additions or adding services whereas the PC fake versions are bring converted into funky art galleries and such.

it is an old mainline denomination in which the national leadership is doing its liberal thing. The people in the pews don’t follow at all. It is basically a conservative congregation. Many families have been here for generations, the cemetery here is filled with their kinfolk, they have nursed the church through thick and thin and aren’t about to turn it over to the new crowd on the block. They are good friends with one another and got each other’s back..

The Bible says to obey the law.

And one particular church claims the right for its priests to ignore the law if they hear of heinous crimes withing a small cubicle with some specific words recited prior to the info coming in....what makes you think churches are aligned with the Bible instead of just the parts they like and/or can "rationalize" give them powers outside the duty of carrying the message?

Congratulations! I wish more mainline congregations would fight the same good fight. It isn't an easy road to take and you are up against incredibly bad odds but consistent backbone against the locals can carry it through.

I had friends in an old ELCA congregation who fought the national leadership tooth and nail and bled them to the point that the ELCA accepted a token contribution from the locals to change their affiliation to Missouri Synod. It wasn't easy, but I think it worked mainly because of two factors: (1)a rural and relatively isolated parish, (2)a united congregation willing to fight.

People in those ‘churches’ need to find new places to worship.
