A little more than a week after pulling state incentives from Nike following its decision to pull its Betsy Ross Flag shoes after former NFL star Colin Kaepernick raised issues around them, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) reversed his stance.
Ducey tweeted Thursday welcoming a Nike facility to Goodyear, Ariz., saying the company will bring more than 500 jobs and $184 million to the state.
Ducey was one of many conservatives to publicly blast Nike and announced he would instruct the state to pull financial incentives for Nike after the company decided not to fully release a Betsy Ross flag sneaker.
Nikes decision was reportedly influenced by Kaepernick, who pointed out the flag's connection to the countrys era of slavery and the flag's current use as imagery associated with white nationalism.
Words cannot express my disappointment at this terrible decision. I am embarrassed for Nike, Ducey wrote as part of a nine-tweet thread.
"Nike has made its decision, and now were making ours. Ive ordered the Arizona Commerce Authority to withdraw all financial incentive dollars under their discretion that the State was providing for the company to locate here," he continued in his July 2nd tweets.
Within days of those tweets, Ducey was spotted wearing Nikes out in public.
Ducey should have just kept his mouth shut if he was going to cave like this anyway - presumably his donors and his political advisers pulled his leash and he fell in line. Pathetic.
The Republicans are truly the stupid party. I wonder sometimes why I’m still registered as one.
I think he had a knee jerk reaction to Nike and then the Glendale mayor whispered in his ear about the loss of jobs.
I could be wrong.
Let's see what they do next!!
He had no business doing anything in the first place. That’s not his money he was playing with.
That’s why our side will lose CWII.
That’s funny!
Sell out loser.
Very bad move. The left already hated him. Now the right hates him too. What a fool. Go ahead Governor and dance to their music. You remind me of some 1900s black man tap dancing on a street corner to the laughs and pennies from the crowd.
HE HASN'T CHANGED HIS MIND.
What the hell is wrong with you people ?...spouting before knowing. I'm pissed...jeez !
Another cheap GOP whore.
This article doesn’t mention that the state’s $1 million incentive has not been reinstated.
So Nike will build the plant without the incentive. So, to be fair, Ducey is not quite as bad as I thought.
“””Dont doubt it, it is a mortal sin in the Catholic Church to renounce, defame and in any way express hatred for ones country”””
Even for Venezuelans? Or Chinese? What a stretch.
Renouncing ones immoral government is different
